The series is a new animated interpretation of Peter Parker’s early years. It is not a straightforward retelling of the live-action Spider-Man movies. Marvel describes the show as a fresh journey that draws on Peter’s early comic-book roots while reworking familiar elements of his story.

What is the series about?
The show follows a young Peter Parker as he tries to become a hero while navigating high school, friendships, and the problems that come with keeping a new superhero identity under control. It focuses on an earlier stage of Peter’s life than many major Spider-Man adaptations, when he is still learning what his powers mean and what kind of hero he wants to be.

One of the series’ most notable changes involves Norman Osborn. Instead of starting solely as Peter’s traditional enemy, Norman is presented as an influential mentor who helps Peter develop as a young hero. Colman Domingo voices Norman Osborn.
The visual style combines 3D and 2D animation and draws from the spirit of classic Spider-Man comics, including the work associated with Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr. The result is intended to feel connected to Spider-Man’s comic-book history without simply reproducing the live-action films.

Marvel’s October 2025 New York Comic Con coverage also reported that preview footage appeared to tease Peter becoming entangled with a familiar black symbiote. That is best understood as a reported preview tease, not a complete official plot synopsis. It does not, by itself, confirm every character detail or explain the full direction of Season 2.
Read the comic-book prequel
Fans who want a physical companion to the show can look for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2024) #1, a 30-page Marvel comic published on December 11, 2024. Marvel identifies it as a prequel to the animated series, not an adaptation of Season 1.
Written by Christos Gage and penciled by Eric Gapstur, the issue follows Peter as he discovers his powers, chooses his name and costume, and begins his freshman year as a novice crime-fighting vigilante. It is therefore a natural “read next” choice for viewers who want more background on this version of Peter Parker, but it is not required to understand the television season.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2024) #1 comic book is the most direct physical prequel product connected to the series. Digital-comics availability and retailer stock can change, so check the current listing before purchasing.
What to know before you start watching

- It is a fresh continuity and interpretation: Do not approach it as a scene-by-scene version of the live-action films.
- Peter is at the beginning of his hero journey: The story emphasizes high school, experimentation, and the responsibilities of learning to use his powers.
- Norman Osborn’s role is different: He begins as a mentor figure rather than being presented only through his familiar adversarial identity.
- The complete first season is available: You can watch all 10 episodes without waiting for the next weekly batch.
How to find the show on Disney+
- Open Disney+ in your region.
- Search for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
