To see 2025 New Year’s Eve fireworks, 2026 countdown livestreams around the world, start with official event pages in time-zone order: Sydney is an early major stop, followed by later celebrations in Dubai, Europe, and New York. December 31, 2025 is archival footage welcoming 2026; the confirmed Times Square webcast on December 31, 2026 welcomes 2027.
The date wording is easy to misread. December 31, 2024 welcomed 2025, while December 31, 2025 welcomed 2026. This guide uses the second meaning for the fireworks recap and separately identifies the confirmed Times Square webcast scheduled for December 31, 2026.
Key takeaways
- December 31, 2025 is the date that welcomed 2026, so those fireworks are now archival rather than upcoming live events.
- The official Sydney New Year’s Eve livestream page says viewers can watch from anywhere in the world, making Sydney a strong early stop in a global countdown.
- Times Square’s official 2026 webcast is free, starts at 6:00 p.m. on December 31, 2026, and runs for six and a half hours.
- Times Square also plans a separate accessible YouTube livestream with open captions and American Sign Language interpretation, with the link expected in December 2026.
- Worldwide celebrations do not all use fireworks: formats include landmark light shows, drone displays, ball drops, live performances, traditional ceremonies, and broadcast-only programming.
- A streaming media player is the simplest way to move an official webcast from a phone or laptop to a compatible television.
What does “2025 New Year’s Eve” mean in this guide?
In this guide, “2025 New Year’s Eve” means December 31, 2025, the night that said goodbye to 2025 and welcomed January 1, 2026. The phrase can also mean December 31, 2024, the night that welcomed 2025, so readers looking for archival footage should check the year attached to each video.
| Wording | Calendar date | What it means | Viewing status |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Year’s Eve 2025 welcoming 2025 | December 31, 2024 | The earlier celebration often labelled “New Year’s Eve 2025” in videos and recaps | Archive or replay |
| 2025 New Year’s Eve welcoming 2026 | December 31, 2025 | The celebration covered by this article’s historical fireworks section | Past event; look for official replays or news coverage |
| New Year’s Eve 2026 welcoming 2027 | December 31, 2026 | The upcoming countdown associated with Times Square’s confirmed 2026 webcast | Future event at the time of the August 14, 2026 research snapshot |
How should you follow the countdown around the world?
The worldwide countdown is a time-zone sequence rather than one simultaneous event: Sydney and other Pacific-region cities reach midnight before Dubai, Europe, and North America. Start with Sydney, then move westward through the official event pages and broadcasters that publish confirmed coverage.

| City or region | Place in the sequence | Typical spectacle format | Best viewing approach |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sydney | One of the earliest major internationally watched city celebrations | Harbour fireworks and landmark-focused production | Use the official Sydney livestream page; the page says worldwide viewers are welcome, but the player can change |
| Dubai | Later than Sydney and ahead of Europe and North America | Burj Khalifa and surrounding landmark light or fireworks programming | Use the landmark operator, tourism authority, or broadcaster once a 2026 stream is published |
| London | European stop | River Thames fireworks, lighting, music, and broadcast coverage | Check the Greater London Authority and BBC close to December 31, 2026; a specific future stream was not verified |
| Paris | European celebration after the earlier Pacific-region events | Landmark and city-centred celebrations; the precise format varies by year | Look for the city’s official event information or a confirmed broadcaster rather than an anonymous restream |
| New York City | North American finale for many international viewers | Times Square Ball Drop, performances, confetti, and live broadcasting | Use the free official Times Square webcast or its announced accessible YouTube stream |
| Japan and other local traditions | Part of the broader global sequence | Bell-ringing, sunrise customs, ceremonies, and other local traditions | Do not assume that every country’s New Year coverage is a fireworks show |
The sequence is useful for viewers building a documentary-style evening of live coverage: begin with the harbour spectacle in Sydney, check the next official pages as midnight moves west, and finish with the Ball Drop in New York. No single “worldwide livestream” page is as dependable as the individual event or organizer pages.
What happened on December 31, 2025, as the world welcomed 2026?
The December 31, 2025 celebrations combined fireworks, light shows, landmark displays, and local customs rather than following one universal format. The Associated Press’s December 31, 2025 overview specifically described celebrations in Sydney, Paris, New York, and other cities as the world moved into 2026.
Why is Sydney the natural starting point?
Sydney is a natural opening point because its harbour fireworks arrive early in the global midnight sequence and attract international viewers. The City of Sydney’s dedicated livestream page says people can watch from anywhere in the world. For an archival 2025-to-2026 viewing session, use the official livestream page rather than an old embedded-player URL, because the player or platform may change.
The broader official Sydney New Year’s Eve site is also the better place to check whether an event replay, program information, or updated viewing instructions remain available.

What did Dubai contribute to the global picture?
Dubai provided a landmark-centred example, with Burj Khalifa and surrounding displays serving as recurring visual anchors in global New Year’s coverage. Coverage of the transition into 2026 included Dubai among the prominent light and fireworks events, but this research pass did not verify a definitive official December 31, 2026 Dubai livestream page.
What can London’s previous coverage tell viewers?
London demonstrates why an in-person event, municipal information, television broadcast, and online stream should be treated as separate layers. The Greater London Authority’s January 1, 2025 recap of the celebration welcoming 2025 reported: “Around 100,000 Londoners and visitors joined together on the banks of the Thames for an unforgettable night of fireworks, lighting and music, while millions at home were able to see our world-first use of hologram animations to celebrate the new year.” The statement is from the Greater London Authority’s 2025 municipal recap, so its attendance figure describes the celebration welcoming 2025, not the later celebration welcoming 2026.
Why should viewers not reduce worldwide New Year’s Eve to fireworks?
According to the Associated Press’s 2025 report, the transition into 2026 included thunderous fireworks, light shows, and local traditions. Japan’s bell-ringing and sunrise customs illustrate the limitation of a fireworks-only guide, while other celebrations may focus on drones, projections, live performances, or television programming.
Where can you find the official 2026 countdown livestreams?
The Sydney and Times Square pages are the clearest verified online paths in this research. London and Dubai are useful itinerary stops, but their specific December 31, 2026 livestream URLs should not be presented as confirmed until the relevant organizer or broadcaster publishes them.
| Event | Confirmed status | What viewers can expect | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sydney official livestream | Official event page verified | Worldwide online viewing of Sydney New Year’s Eve coverage | The exact player, embed, or platform can change; use the event page instead of copying a permanent player URL |
| Times Square official NYE webcast | Official 2026 webcast confirmed for December 31, 2026 | Free webcast beginning at 6:00 p.m. and lasting six and a half hours | The date is December 31, 2026, welcoming 2027, not the past December 31, 2025 event |
| Times Square accessible YouTube stream | Planned by the official event | Open captions and American Sign Language interpretation | The official page says the link will be posted in December 2026 |
| London municipal and BBC pathway | Broadcast history documented; specific December 31, 2026 stream not verified | Potential River Thames event and broadcast coverage | Check the Greater London Authority and BBC close to the event date |
| Dubai landmark or tourism pathway | Prominent 2025-to-2026 coverage documented; future official stream not verified | Landmark-focused light and fireworks programming | Wait for a link from the landmark operator, destination authority, or broadcaster |
When does the Times Square 2026 webcast start?
The official Times Square 2026 webcast starts at 6:00 p.m. on December 31, 2026, is free, and is described in the official FAQ as a six-and-a-half-hour online webcast. The official page states, “Both free live webcasts begin at 6:00pm on December 31.” — Times Square NYC, official NYE Live Webcast page.

The accessible version is planned as a separate YouTube livestream with open captions and ASL interpretation. The official event page says that link will be posted in December 2026. An official Times Square YouTube event listing identifies Times Square NYC as the publisher, but viewers should still begin from the official webcast page because event URLs and listings can change.
How can you watch the countdown on a television?
You can watch an official countdown on a television if the event player is supported by the television’s built-in apps, browser, casting system, or an attached streaming device. Times Square’s viewing information covers computers and mobile devices, while Sydney’s official page provides the event-side livestream; neither event requires one particular television brand or operating system.
What should you do if a livestream does not play?
Start with the official event page and treat a missing player as a link or platform problem before treating it as a computer problem. The following checks are practical without assuming that a particular event uses a particular video service:
- Confirm the date and event year. A page for December 31, 2024 may show the arrival of 2025, while a page for December 31, 2025 shows the arrival of 2026.
- Reload the organizer’s current event page instead of relying on a copied embed or an old social-media post.
- Try the official YouTube accessibility link when the organizer publishes it, especially if you need captions or ASL interpretation.
- Check the browser or television app, then try a supported computer or mobile browser if the television player fails.
- If playback stutters, reduce video quality, close unnecessary streams, and test the connection before installing any optimization software.
- Use official event or broadcaster pages rather than anonymous restreams, which may disappear or lack permission to rebroadcast the footage.
These steps cannot guarantee uninterrupted playback. Event pages, performers, broadcasters, access rules, and platform availability can change close to New Year’s Eve.

Want to host your own global countdown stream?
Creators who want to host a licensed watch-along, documentary replay, or countdown stream—not merely watch city fireworks—may find StreamNeo relevant. StreamNeo describes its cloud livestreaming for YouTube creators as a way to loop prerecorded video continuously from the cloud, with automatic recovery and no local PC requirement.
Stream a licensed countdown replay from the cloud
StreamNeo provides cloud livestreaming for YouTube creators: upload a licensed prerecorded countdown, documentary replay, or watch-along video and paste a YouTube stream key to start the broadcast. The stream runs in the cloud while your PC stays off.
For a long-running broadcast, StreamNeo checks stream health every 30 seconds and automatically restarts a dropped stream. You still need permission for every video, audio track, and broadcast feed you use.
You can test the workflow with StreamNeo’s free 24-hour 720p/30fps trial, with no card required at signup, before deciding whether it fits your licensed countdown or replay project.
StreamNeo is not a substitute for Sydney’s or Times Square’s official viewer stream, and creators must have permission to use every video, audio track, and broadcast feed in a watch-along or replay. StreamNeo’s commercial terms and program availability were not independently verified for this article; see the official StreamNeo service page for the product description.

Which links should you recheck before December 31, 2026?
Refresh this guide shortly before December 31, 2026. The most important checks are the exact Sydney player or replay location, the Times Square accessible YouTube link, a confirmed London online pathway, and an official Dubai stream from a landmark operator, tourism authority, or broadcaster. Treat any page that does not identify the event organizer or broadcaster as provisional.
The safest viewing plan is therefore simple: use Sydney’s official page for the early global celebration, use Times Square’s official page for the confirmed free 2026 webcast, and verify every other city through its own organizer or broadcaster rather than trusting a generic worldwide livestream page.
