The Top 6 Trends Your Teen Is Loving in 2025

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Top 6 Trends Your Teen Is Loving in 2025 are creator-led remix culture, everyday AI chatbots, beauty as self-expression, social gaming, online-influenced fashion, and escapist YA fiction. The six overlap rather than define every teenager: the evidence combines U.S. teen surveys with industry, platform, and publishing research that measures different groups.

That distinction matters. Some findings measure U.S. teens directly, while others cover online Gen Z respondents, beauty shoppers, Pinterest searches, or publishing professionals. The result is a useful cultural snapshot—not a universal ranking of every teenager’s interests.

Key takeaways

  • Teen culture in 2025 is participatory: creator-led videos influence habits, humor, slang, and personal style, while some teens also remix or create content.
  • According to Pew Research Center’s 2025 teen technology survey, 64% of U.S. teens ages 13–17 had used chatbots, including about three in ten who used them daily.
  • According to Boston Consulting Group and Women’s Wear Daily (2025), U.S. teenagers account for about 10% of consumer beauty spending, with substantial spending on makeup, skincare, and fragrance.
  • According to Pew Research Center (2024), 85% of U.S. teens play video games, and 89% of teen players play with other people in person or online.
  • Teen fashion combines durable brand preferences, such as Nike’s leading position in Piper Sandler’s Fall 2025 survey, with fast-moving aesthetics discovered through social platforms and search.
  • YA publishing coverage in 2025 points to strong interest in escapist romance, fantasy, emotionally hopeful stories, and contrasting light and dark moods, but it is not a nationally representative survey of teen readers.

How do the six teen trends compare?

The six trends are better understood as overlapping behaviors than as a universal ranking. A teenager can use a creator’s skincare recommendation, meet friends in a game, experiment with a fashion aesthetic, ask an AI chatbot for brainstorming help, and read an escapist fantasy novel without treating any of those activities as a permanent identity.

Trend What participation looks like 2025 evidence Offline crossover Main tradeoff
Creator-led video and remix culture Watching, curating, commenting, quoting, remixing, and sometimes creating Google/SmithGeiger found 60% adopted habits from online creators, 62% picked up language or slang from videos or memes, and 59% said online content influenced personal style. Shared jokes, personal style, routines, and creator-inspired purchases Not every teen creates content; internet-shaped humor and style can change quickly.
AI chatbots Questions, brainstorming, school-related tasks, entertainment, and conversation Pew Research Center found 64% of surveyed U.S. teens had used chatbots, with about three in ten using them daily. Homework discussions, planning, and conversations about answers or ideas Use does not prove accuracy, trust, privacy, or healthy reliance.
Beauty and fragrance Trying products, learning routines, and using appearance as self-expression BCG/WWD reported about 10% of the U.S. consumer beauty market comes from teens; annual teen spending was approximately $1.5 billion on makeup, $1.7 billion on skincare, and $1.7 billion on fragrance. More than 80% of surveyed teens shop for beauty online and in stores. Spending pressure, viral product churn, and the need for age-appropriate routines
Gaming as a social hangout Playing with friends, meeting people online, and maintaining shared game-based communities Pew Research Center reported that 72% of teen players play to spend time with others and 47% have made a friend online because of a game. In-person or online play; gaming can become a regular social venue. Sleep disruption, harassment, and different experiences across players
Expressive fashion Combining familiar brands with rapidly changing colors, silhouettes, accessories, and micro-trends Piper Sandler ranked Nike first in teen footwear and clothing mindshare; Pinterest said 65% of its 2025 trends were driven by Gen Z. Shopping, outfit building, sneakers, bags, and accessories Brand loyalty can coexist with novelty, but micro-trends can create cost and pressure.
YA romance, fantasy, and hopeful fiction Reading for emotional contrast, romance, discovery, fantasy, and escape Publishers Weekly’s 2025 survey of agents and editors described demand ranging from light romance to mysterious or sinister stories. Physical books, recommendations between friends, and imagined travel or fantasy worlds The evidence is a publishing-market signal, not a measurement of every teen’s reading habits.

1. Why are creator-led video and remix culture so influential?

Creator-led video is influential because teens can participate in the culture around a video rather than only watch it. Participation may mean curating a feed, commenting, repeating a reference, adapting a format, using a meme’s language, or turning an online idea into a routine, outfit, joke, or creative project.

According to the Google and SmithGeiger U.S. YouTube Trends Survey, fielded in April 2025 among 500 online Gen Z respondents ages 14–24, 60% agreed that they had picked up habits, traditions, or rituals from online creators. The same survey found that 58% agreed the internet had shaped their sense of humor, 62% agreed they used language or slang picked up from videos or internet memes, and 59% agreed online content had influenced their personal style.

The figures describe an online Gen Z sample ages 14–24, not every U.S. teenager. Even with that limitation, the pattern explains why “creator culture” is more accurate than simply saying teens watch TikTok or YouTube. The creator, the audience, and the community can all help shape what a trend becomes.

YouTube’s Culture & Trends team summarized the shift this way: “aren’t just consumers, but also adept creators and curators of content reflecting their interests and worldview.” The YouTube Culture & Trends report on creative maximalism presents this as a move toward highly customized, layered, community-shaped expression.

For parents, a teen repeating an unfamiliar phrase or copying a creator’s routine is not automatically evidence of a problem. The useful question is what role the trend plays: Is the teen making something, connecting with friends, exploring an interest, or simply being pulled through an endless feed? The answer can be different from one platform or creator to another.

2. Are teens using AI chatbots every day?

Yes, AI chatbot use had become mainstream enough among U.S. teens to count as an everyday technology trend in 2025, although use does not mean that teens trust chatbots or treat them as reliable authorities.

According to Pew Research Center’s survey of 1,458 U.S. teens ages 13–17, conducted from September 25 through October 9, 2025, 64% had used chatbots and about three in ten used them daily. Pew’s report placed chatbot use alongside the continuing intensity of social-media use, including its finding that roughly one in five U.S. teens said they were on TikTok and YouTube almost constantly.

What are teenagers actually doing with chatbots? The available evidence supports a broad description rather than one definitive use case. Teens may use chatbots to ask questions, brainstorm, work through school-related tasks, generate entertainment, or hold a conversation. The evidence does not establish that teens generally regard chatbots as friends, therapists, or accurate authorities.

Parents can treat AI use as a conversation about judgment rather than as a simple ban-or-approve decision. Ask what the chatbot contributed, whether the answer was checked, and whether the teen entered private or sensitive information. School rules, age requirements, privacy policies, and the possibility of confidently incorrect answers all matter. A high adoption rate makes AI culturally relevant; it does not make every answer safe or true.

3. Why is my teen interested in skincare, makeup, and fragrance?

Teen interest in skincare, makeup, and fragrance reflects both beauty consumption and self-expression. Social content can introduce products and routines, while shopping in stores gives teens a physical way to compare, test, and choose what fits their preferences.

According to Boston Consulting Group and Women’s Wear Daily’s 2025 industry analysis, U.S. teens begin buying beauty products at an average age of 12, about a year earlier than teens did a decade earlier. Teens represent about 10% of the U.S. consumer beauty market. The report estimates annual teen spending at approximately $1.5 billion on makeup, $1.7 billion on skincare, and $1.7 billion on fragrance.

The same BCG/WWD research reported that teen beauty spending grew 23% year over year in 2023, compared with 9% growth for the overall beauty market. Around 75% of teen girls consumed beauty content on social media at least once a day, and more than 80% of surveyed teens shopped for beauty both online and in stores. More than half of teen girls in the research described beauty as a form of self-expression, while teen boys were increasingly comfortable discussing and using beauty products.

The trend does not mean teens are buying every product that goes viral. BCG found that established brands including Bath & Body Works, CeraVe, and e.l.f. Beauty led top choices for teen girls. Familiarity, practicality, performance, and online visibility can therefore operate together.

  • We're proud to support Get Blue, part of a global movement through Water.org - helping bring safe water and sanitation to families around the world. To support Get Blue, e.l.f. has made a direct donation to Water.org.

A teen skincare set can be a reasonable category-level example of this trend, but a viral routine is not automatically an appropriate routine for every age or skin type. A simple routine, careful attention to product instructions, and stopping a product that causes irritation are more useful principles than collecting a large number of products. Persistent or serious skin concerns belong with a qualified healthcare professional rather than a social-media recommendation.

4. Is gaming how teenagers socialize now?

For many teen players, gaming is a social environment as well as entertainment. Multiplayer games provide a place to talk, cooperate, compete, and maintain friendships, so time spent gaming cannot be understood solely by counting minutes played.

According to Pew Research Center’s 2024 report based on a survey fielded in 2023, 85% of U.S. teens play video games and 41% play at least once a day. Pew also found that 89% of teen video-game players play with other people either in person or online.

The social motive is substantial. According to the same Pew research, 72% of teen players say spending time with others is a reason they play, and 47% say they have made a friend online because of a game. Those findings support the idea of gaming as a hangout: the game is often the shared setting through which conversation and connection happen.

Gaming also has real tradeoffs. According to Pew Research Center (2024), 41% of teen players said gaming had hurt how much sleep they get. Parents may also need to discuss harassment, voice-chat behavior, spending inside games, and who a teen is interacting with. Gaming experiences vary by gender and by whether a teen identifies as a gamer, so one player’s experience should not be treated as a universal account of gaming.

A more useful family conversation asks what happens during gaming time. Is the teen playing cooperatively with school friends, talking with a long-distance friend, competing with strangers, or moving between several activities? The answer helps determine whether the main issue is social balance, sleep, safety, spending, or something else.

5. What fashion brands and aesthetics are popular with teens?

Teen fashion in 2025 combines durable brand preferences with fast-moving online aesthetics. Recognizable sneakers and clothing brands can remain popular while social platforms and search trends encourage experimentation with silhouettes, colors, accessories, and changing “core” looks.

Piper Sandler’s Fall 2025 Teen Survey collected responses from 10,969 teens with an average age of 15.7. Among respondents, TikTok was the most-used social-media app at 46%, followed by Instagram at 31% and Snapchat at 14%. The survey ranked Nike as the No. 1 footwear brand and No. 1 clothing brand in teen mindshare, with Hollister and Brandy Melville following in its clothing rankings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Those rankings describe brand mindshare among Piper Sandler respondents, not a universal shopping list or proof that every teenager wears the same style. Brand loyalty can be stable while the details of an outfit change quickly. A teen may want a familiar sneaker but use accessories or layering to signal a newly discovered aesthetic.

Pinterest’s 2025 trend forecast, published December 1, 2024, provides a different kind of evidence: it identifies rapidly rising trends through year-over-year search growth and reports that 65% of its 2025 trends were driven by Gen Z. Pinterest’s forecast is a platform signal, not a representative survey of all teens, but it helps explain why fashion micro-trends can appear and spread quickly.

Parents trying to understand a new look can separate identity from purchasing pressure. Ask which part matters most—the brand, the color, the fit, the accessory, or the feeling the outfit creates. Searches for teen sneaker trends, casual clothing, bags, and accessories may reflect genuine self-expression, but a trend’s visibility does not make it essential or durable.

6. What books are teenagers reading in 2025?

The strongest 2025 signal points to YA romance, fantasy, escapist settings, and hopeful emotional experiences, but the evidence describes publishing demand rather than a national ranking of what teenagers are actually reading.

Publishers Weekly’s April 2025 survey of agents and editors described YA publishing as moving between light, romantic stories and mysterious or sinister ones. The coverage identified continued interest in escapism, romance in faraway places, fantasy-world treachery, vacation romances, hopeful stories, and settings that give readers a sense of travel or discovery.

“In these challenging and disheartening times, I do think that we need hopeful stories.”

That statement came from Dainese Santos, editor of Always Be My Bibi, as reproduced by Publishers Weekly. The quote captures why emotionally hopeful fiction can sit beside darker fantasy or mystery: readers and publishers may be looking for contrast rather than one single mood.

Readers searching for 2025 YA romance books may find the clearest fit in stories built around romance, travel, emotional warmth, or imaginative settings. YA fantasy books and other escapist teen fiction can offer a different form of distance from ordinary life. Neither category should be presented as the one genre all teens prefer, because the underlying source surveyed publishing professionals rather than teen readers.

Why do these six trends overlap?

The six trends overlap because 2025 teen culture moves repeatedly between digital discovery, peer participation, personal identity, and offline activity. A creator-led video can introduce a beauty product or outfit idea. A game can become a social meeting place. A book can provide the emotional escape that a fast-moving feed does not. An AI chatbot can become one more tool a teen experiments with, without replacing friends, teachers, or family.

The important distinction is between a trend signal and a universal preference. A survey can show that a behavior is widespread in a defined group; it cannot tell a parent exactly why one teenager likes that behavior. The best interpretation combines evidence with observation: what does the teen do, who do they do it with, how often does it change, and what does it cost in sleep, money, privacy, or attention?

How should parents interpret a new teen trend?

  1. Ask about the activity, not only the label. “What do you like about this?” can reveal whether the appeal is creativity, friendship, confidence, curiosity, competition, or escape.
  2. Separate participation from passive exposure. Making, curating, reading, and playing with friends are different experiences from endlessly scrolling or buying because an algorithm repeated a recommendation.
  3. Check the practical tradeoff. Look at sleep, spending, privacy, school expectations, physical comfort, and online safety without assuming that the trend itself is harmful.
  4. Make room for experimentation. Fashion, beauty, fiction, games, and online humor can help a teenager explore identity. Reasonable limits can coexist with room to change interests.
  5. Keep claims proportional to the evidence. U.S. teen surveys, platform forecasts, industry research, and publishing reports describe different populations. None of them can predict one individual teen.

What does the 2025 research actually measure?

The evidence behind this list is a deliberately mixed research base. Pew Research Center’s AI survey covered 1,458 U.S. teens ages 13–17 in September and October 2025, while Google and SmithGeiger’s creator-culture survey covered 500 online Gen Z respondents ages 14–24 in April 2025. The age ranges and sampling frames are not interchangeable.

The gaming figures come from Pew Research Center’s 2024 report based on a survey fielded in 2023. Piper Sandler’s Fall 2025 survey gathered responses from 10,969 teens with an average age of 15.7. BCG and WWD examined teen beauty purchasing and behavior as an industry-market study. Pinterest’s figures come from a platform trend forecast based on search growth, and Publishers Weekly’s YA article reflects a survey of agents and editors rather than teen readers.

No independent 2025 nationally representative survey located for this article ranks all six categories against one another. “The Top 6 Trends Your Teen Is Loving in 2025” is therefore an evidence-based editorial synthesis, not a single-source league table. The safest conclusion is that teen culture is becoming more participatory, socially connected, commercially visible, and comfortable moving between online and offline experiences—while remaining highly varied from one teenager to the next.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The top teen trends of 2025 are not one shared uniform or platform. Creator participation, AI experimentation, beauty, social gaming, expressive fashion, and escapist YA fiction are overlapping ways teens explore identity, friendship, creativity, and emotion. The evidence is strongest when read as a map of cultural signals, not a prediction of what every teenager likes.
