Who is Radhika Merchant, the businesswoman and trained classical dancer joining India’s richest family?
Radhika Merchant is an Indian businesswoman, Encore Healthcare director, and trained classical dancer who married Anant Ambani in Mumbai on July 12, 2024. She is the daughter of Viren and Shaila Merchant, studied political science at New York University, and became publicly known through her relationship with the Ambani family.

What does Radhika Merchant do?
Radhika Merchant is listed as a director of Encore Healthcare Private Limited, a private Mumbai-registered company associated with her family. Registry-derived corporate records list Radhika Viren Merchant as a director with an appointment date of September 30, 2016.
Media descriptions add a second professional designation. Forbes described Merchant as a businesswoman connected to Encore Healthcare, while Vogue described her as the family company’s marketing director. Because a corporate registry and a media profile serve different purposes, the most precise description is that Merchant is a director of Encore Healthcare and has been described in media coverage as its marketing director.
Those records do not establish that Merchant is Encore Healthcare’s owner, chief executive officer, or founder. Forbes identified her parents, Viren and Shaila Merchant, as the company’s founders. The available evidence also does not establish that Merchant runs Reliance Industries or holds a seat on the Reliance board.
Who are Radhika Merchant’s parents?
Radhika Merchant is the daughter of Viren Merchant and Shaila Merchant. Forbes identified Viren and Shaila Merchant as founders of Encore Healthcare, the family-associated healthcare company where Radhika is listed as a director.
Registry-derived records for Encore Healthcare also list Viren Merchant, Shaila Merchant, Radhika Merchant, Anjali Merchant, and Aman Suketu Majithia among the company’s directors or key personnel. The record establishes a family and corporate connection; it does not by itself describe each person’s operational responsibilities.
What did Radhika Merchant study?
Radhika Merchant completed an International Baccalaureate at B.D. Somani International School in Mumbai and graduated from New York University in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in political science, according to Forbes’ biographical profile.
Rank #2
Her education is one reason a purely celebrity-focused description is incomplete. Merchant’s public profile combines formal university education, work connected to her family’s healthcare business, classical-dance training, and a high-profile marriage into the Ambani family.
Is Radhika Merchant a classical dancer?
Yes. Radhika Merchant is publicly described as a trained classical dancer, but the available biographical sources do not identify a specific classical form, named guru, certification, or full chronology of her training.

The evidence supports the broad description “trained classical dancer,” but it does not justify identifying Merchant as a Bharatanatyam dancer or assigning her another precise dance tradition without a source that says so.
Her dance background became visible during the 2024 wedding celebrations. Vogue reported that the sangeet included rehearsed dance choreographies and that Merchant performed in a crystal outfit designed by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. The performance demonstrated the cultural and artistic dimension of the celebrations, but it did not provide a complete account of her training.
How did Radhika Merchant meet Anant Ambani?
Radhika Merchant and Anant Ambani met through mutual friends in 2017 and soon began dating. In a Vogue interview, Merchant said, “That first meeting just sparked something special between us, and it wasn’t long before we started dating.”
Anant Ambani is the youngest son of Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, and Nita Ambani. Merchant’s connection to the Ambani family therefore comes through her marriage to Anant Ambani, not through evidence that she occupies a Reliance Industries management or board position.

When did Radhika Merchant and Anant Ambani get married?
Radhika Merchant and Anant Ambani married in Mumbai on July 12, 2024. Vogue covered the couple’s final wedding celebrations, while Reliance Industries later confirmed the family’s welcome to Merchant in its official AGM statement.
| Date | Event | What is documented |
|---|---|---|
| 2017 | Meeting and relationship | Vogue reported that Merchant and Ambani met through mutual friends and began dating. |
| 2023 | Proposal | Vogue reported that Ambani proposed at the Shrinathji Temple in Nathdwara, Rajasthan. |
| July 12, 2024 | Marriage | Merchant and Ambani married in Mumbai. |
| August 29, 2024 | Official family welcome | Nita Ambani welcomed Merchant into the Reliance family during Reliance Industries’ 2024 AGM statement. |
Nita Ambani said in the official Reliance Industries AGM statement: “With open arms and hearts full of love, we welcome Radhika into our Reliance family.” The statement confirms the family’s public welcome; it does not announce a Reliance corporate appointment for Merchant.
Why were Jamnagar and Vantara important to the wedding story?
Jamnagar was chosen for the couple’s pre-wedding celebrations as a way of connecting the event with the Ambani family’s roots and legacy. Merchant told Vogue, “Choosing Jamnagar was our way of honoring our roots and the family’s legacy.” She also described Jamnagar as a place where Anant works and where the couple spends time away from Mumbai.
Vantara, the animal-rescue and rehabilitation initiative associated with Anant Ambani, formed part of the public narrative surrounding the pre-wedding events. Merchant told Vogue, “I hope that our wedding will bring global attention to Vantara, the largest animal rehabilitation center in the world, a project that my husband and I hold very close in our hearts.” The phrase “largest animal rehabilitation center in the world” is Merchant’s characterization in that interview, not an independently verified finding established by the sources reviewed here.

Merchant also acknowledged the exceptional circumstances surrounding the celebrations, telling Vogue, “I recognize that this is a privilege few people experience, and I truly feel blessed.” Her comments presented the events as both a family celebration and an opportunity to draw attention to places and projects important to the couple.
How large was the 2024 wedding celebration?
The wedding became a major international media event because of its scale, celebrity attendance, couture, cultural rituals, and connection to the Ambani family’s public profile.

| Reported detail | Figure | Source and context |
|---|---|---|
| Mangal Utsav reception attendance | More than 14,000 attendees | Vogue India reported the attendance in its coverage of the Mumbai celebration. |
| Jamnagar pre-wedding drone show | 5,500 drones | Vogue India reported the figure and described the show as India’s largest at that time. |
| Reliance Foundation reach | Over 77 million people across all states and 56,000 villages | Reliance Industries’ 2024 AGM statement reported this organizational figure; it is not a statistic about Merchant. |
The figures describe the public scale of the events and the wider Reliance Foundation statement. They should not be mistaken for measures of Merchant’s personal business activity, wealth, or ownership.

The distinction between family membership and corporate office is important. Merchant has a documented directorship in Encore Healthcare and a media-described marketing role at the family company. Her Ambani connection is documented through marriage and public family statements, not through a confirmed Reliance Industries board or management appointment.
What is Radhika Merchant’s net worth?
No reliable published figure for Radhika Merchant’s personal net worth, assets, compensation, or ownership stake was established in the reviewed sources. Her personal wealth should not be estimated from the Merchant family’s business association, Anant Ambani’s family wealth, or the scale of the wedding.
Business-family background and marriage into a wealthy family provide context about Merchant’s public profile, but they do not prove her individual net worth. Any precise online estimate should therefore be treated cautiously unless it is supported by a current, authoritative financial disclosure.

Radhika Merchant is best described as an Indian businesswoman and trained classical dancer who is a director of Encore Healthcare, the daughter of Viren and Shaila Merchant, and the wife of Anant Ambani. Her education includes a New York University political-science degree, while her public visibility has been shaped by both her professional and family connections.
