At the time, the photographs suggested a possible romance, but neither Steinfeld nor Allen had publicly confirmed that they were a couple. A June 2023 report citing an unnamed source said they had been together for about a month and were enjoying each other’s company. The most accurate description is therefore that they were reportedly dating by approximately May 2023—not that a specific private start date has been confirmed.
July 2023: They are photographed together in Cabo
Entertainment outlets reported that Steinfeld and Allen spent time together in Cabo over the Fourth of July weekend. Photos from the trip were interpreted as showing affection, adding to speculation that their relationship was becoming serious.
These were still public sightings rather than a formal relationship announcement. No precise account of when they began dating has been established by either person.
August 2023 to July 2024: The relationship gradually becomes public
Allen addressed the relationship publicly for the first time in August 2023, according to timeline reporting. Even after that acknowledgment, the couple generally avoided turning their private life into a constant subject of public discussion.

That changed more noticeably in July 2024, when Allen shared images featuring Steinfeld. Entertainment coverage widely treated the post as the couple’s public “hard launch”—the point at which they presented the relationship more openly to followers. The exact wording and date of the original social-media post should not be reconstructed from secondary summaries alone.
November 2024: Allen proposes and the couple announces their engagement
Allen proposed to Steinfeld on November 22, 2024, in Malibu, California, according to reporting from the Associated Press and ESPN.

A more specific venue should not be stated as fact without an official statement from the couple.
