He pointed to the couple’s busy family life, including traveling with Deschanel’s children, as well as filming his HGTV projects. Their schedule has also included other celebrations and charitable commitments. In other words, the engagement has not necessarily been stalled by a problem; wedding planning has simply remained behind the rest of their priorities.
Scott and Deschanel also appear to be approaching marriage without a deadline. Deschanel previously said that they were enjoying being engaged and did not know when they would marry. Later coverage described them as being in an “exploratory” phase rather than actively working toward a publicly announced ceremony.

A follow-up interview in October 2025 offered an even more direct update. As reported by Parade, Scott said there were “no updates yet” and joked that he and Deschanel were “the worst” at planning their own wedding.
