Activate HGTV GO by opening the app on your streaming device, recording the code on the TV, and entering it at watch.hgtv.com/activate. Then select Activate, choose your television provider, and sign in with the provider account that includes HGTV.
To activate HGTV GO on a Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, or Fire TV Stick, open the app on your television and note the code it displays. On a phone or computer, go to watch.hgtv.com/activate, enter the code, select Activate, choose your television provider, and sign in with that provider’s credentials.
Important: the current activation address is https://watch.hgtv.com/activate. Do not use watch.hgtv.com/link; current HGTV/Discovery GO information identifies /activate as the working activation endpoint.
What you need before activating HGTV GO
- A compatible Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, or Fire TV Stick connected to the internet.
- The current HGTV GO app, now part of Discovery’s all-inclusive GO experience.
- A participating cable, satellite, telco, or live-TV streaming provider.
- The username and password for that television provider—not a separate HGTV password.
- A second device, such as a phone, tablet, or computer, to visit the activation page.
HGTV GO is free to download and may offer unlocked episodes or seasons without authentication. However, live HGTV and the complete on-demand catalog require you to link a participating pay-TV provider. Discovery explains the access requirements in its official GO app and website guidance.
Universal HGTV GO activation steps
- Install the HGTV GO app on your streaming device.
- Open the app. An activation code should appear on the television screen.
- On your phone or computer, open watch.hgtv.com/activate.
- Type the code exactly as it appears on the TV. If the code has expired, close and reopen the app to generate a new one.
- Select Activate.
- Choose your cable, satellite, telco, or live-TV streaming provider from the list.
- Sign in using the provider account that includes HGTV.
- Return to the TV app. It should refresh and unlock the programming included with your provider package.
Activation does not create a separate HGTV subscription. The provider’s system verifies whether your television package includes HGTV and determines which live and on-demand programs you can watch.

Roku’s newer support terminology may show authenticated television apps under Home > Apps. The exact menu can vary by Roku software version, but searching for the network and checking the app’s details remains the practical way to find it. Roku’s official cable and satellite content instructions describe the provider-authentication process.

Discovery’s current compatibility information lists Roku OS 13 and newer, including Roku 3, Roku Ultra, Roku Express, Roku Stick, Roku Stick+, and Roku TV models. A particular model can still be affected by software support, app availability, or provider restrictions, so an older Roku may not install or run the current app. Check the current supported-device list if the app is missing.
Roku Single Sign-On
Some Roku users may see an easier Single Sign-On option. HGTV GO is among the apps Roku identifies as capable of supporting SSO, but availability depends on the provider. Roku specifically notes that major providers such as Spectrum, Comcast Xfinity, Altice, Verizon, and Frontier often do not support SSO. If SSO is unavailable, use the activation-code and provider-login method instead.

Discovery lists Apple TV Gen 4 and newer with tvOS 12 and newer among the supported platforms. Very old Apple TV hardware may not support the current app or its required tvOS version. The current app model is also broader than a single-network app: Discovery describes GO as one all-inclusive experience covering up to 15 Discovery-family networks, depending on authentication and availability.

Discovery lists Fire TV Cube, Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Edition televisions with Android 5 or newer as supported categories. Support can vary by exact model and software version; an older Fire TV device may not be compatible even if it resembles a supported product category.
Which login should you use?
Use the account supplied by the company that provides your television service. For example, that may be the account used to manage your cable, satellite, telco, or live-TV streaming subscription. Do not assume that an Amazon, Roku, Apple, or HGTV account is the correct login.
If your provider uses a separate email address for billing and for its television portal, use the credentials accepted by the provider’s TV or online account system. If you are unsure, sign in to the provider’s website first or use its password-reset process.

Why HGTV GO activation fails
The provider is not listed
If you cannot find your provider in the activation list, Discovery says that provider is not currently a partner offering full GO access. You may still be able to watch unlocked episodes or unlocked seasons without signing in, but changing the device or retrying the code will not make an unsupported provider appear. See Discovery’s guidance on finding a provider when linking GO.

“You are not authorized” or HGTV is not included
This usually means one of two things: the selected television package does not include HGTV, or the provider failed to verify the subscription. Confirm that you selected the correct provider and that the account belongs to the household or subscription with HGTV access. A streaming package can carry some Discovery-family channels without including every network or every type of programming.
The code is rejected or the page keeps loading
- Check that you used
watch.hgtv.com/activate, not the outdated/linkaddress. - Generate a fresh code by reopening or restarting the TV app.
- Make sure the code was typed correctly and has not expired.
- Verify that you selected the correct provider.
- Try the provider credentials for the account that actually includes HGTV.
- Check the internet connection on both the streaming device and the phone or computer.
- Consider whether your provider recently changed your package or account.
Roku identifies wrong-provider selection, different-account credentials, package changes, connection problems, and a package without HGTV as common causes of failed verification.
The app crashes or will not load
First, uninstall the app and install it again. On Android-based devices such as Fire TV, Discovery also recommends clearing the app’s data and cache. You may need to sign in again after doing this. Reinstalling is especially useful when the app opens to a blank screen, closes unexpectedly, or never produces an activation code. Discovery’s troubleshooting instructions are available in its article about GO apps that crash or will not load.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The app displays an “update” or “restart” error
Discovery has documented this issue in connection with the newer all-inclusive GO app. Manually update the app, choose unlink when that option appears to sign out, then sign in again by selecting your cable or satellite provider and entering the provider credentials. This is different from installing separate apps for each Discovery network: the current GO experience is designed to bring multiple networks together in one app or website.

Can you watch HGTV GO without a TV provider?
Only partially. The app and website can contain unlocked content that does not require authentication. Full access—including live television and the complete on-demand catalog—requires a participating pay-TV provider. Therefore, “free to download” does not mean that every HGTV program is free to stream without a subscription.
Why the activation page may differ by device
The basic code-linking process is shared across Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV, but device menus and app labels can change with operating-system updates. The most important constant is the URL displayed or identified for the current service: watch.hgtv.com/activate. If an older guide tells you to install separate apps for HGTV, Food Network, HGTV, or other Discovery brands, treat that instruction as potentially outdated; Discovery now describes a consolidated GO app experience.
Quick activation checklist
- Install the current HGTV GO app.
- Confirm the device meets the relevant Roku, Apple TV, or Fire TV requirements.
- Open the app and keep the on-screen code visible.
- Visit
watch.hgtv.com/activateon another device. - Enter the code and select Activate.
- Select the provider that supplies your television service.
- Use the provider’s credentials—not a separate HGTV login.
- If access is denied, confirm HGTV is part of the package and retry after reinstalling or updating the app.
Once the provider accepts the activation, the HGTV GO app should refresh automatically. If it does not, close and reopen the app, then repeat the sign-in process after checking the provider, package, device compatibility, and internet connection.

Can I use HGTV GO without a TV provider?
No. HGTV GO is free to download and has some unlocked content, but live HGTV and the complete on-demand catalog require a participating cable, satellite, telco, or live-TV streaming provider.
Which username and password should I use to activate HGTV GO?
Use the username and password for the cable, satellite, telco, or live-TV streaming service that includes HGTV. The activation process does not use a separate HGTV subscription login.
Why does HGTV GO say I am not authorized?
Confirm that you used watch.hgtv.com/activate, generate a fresh code, choose the correct provider, check that your package includes HGTV, and verify your internet connection. Reinstalling the app can also resolve crashes or loading failures.
The Bottom Line
The current HGTV GO activation address is watch.hgtv.com/activate, not watch.hgtv.com/link. Install the app, enter its TV code on the activation page, and authenticate with a participating television provider that includes HGTV.
