Elon Musk and Shivon Zilis announced the arrival of their fourth child together, a son named Seldon Lycurgus, on February 28, 2025. Zilis shared the news in a post on X, saying she and Musk had decided to announce it directly around the birthday of their daughter Arcadia. Musk responded to the announcement with a heart emoji, according to contemporaneous reporting.
The announcement was widely described as Musk’s 14th known child. “Known” is the important qualification: the figure refers to children publicly reported or disclosed at the time, not to an independently audited biological total. The announcement also did not disclose Seldon’s exact date of birth.
What Elon Musk and Shivon Zilis announced
Zilis’s post identified the baby as Seldon Lycurgus and described him as “wonderful and incredible.” She said she loved him and explained that she and Musk felt it was better to share the news themselves, in the context of Arcadia’s birthday.

- Crystal Clear Audio with DECT 6.0 Technology: No static, no white noise, no interference - DECT 6.0 digital transmission means you only ever hear your baby. Unlike analog monitors that produce constant background hissing, the DM111 is completely silent until your baby makes a sound. The moment they stir, you hear it clearly. Encrypted FHSS channel shared exclusively between baby unit and parent unit - no internet, no cloud, no account. Cannot be hacked
- Portable Design with Long Battery Life: 8-hour rechargeable battery and belt clip keep you connected with both hands free. The parent unit attaches to your belt, waistband, or pocket and moves with you through the house, yard, or garage. The 1,000ft range maintains a strong connection wherever you go. AAA batteries (included) serve as backup when you can't charge
- Visual Sound Indicator with Mute Function: Mute the speaker - 5 LED lights still show exactly how loud the nursery is. Check the sound indicator from across the bed without picking up the unit or waking your partner. One light means quiet, five means crying. When your attention is needed, the parent unit emits an alert tone - low battery, out of range, or sound activity above your set threshold
- Simple Setup and Operation: Plug in, power on, connected in 60 seconds - no app, no WiFi, no account, no pairing screens. Connect both units to power and they link automatically. That's the entire setup. Volume is controlled with a single up/down button on the parent unit
- Versatile Use for Multiple Situations: Reliable audio monitoring without complexity for new parents, travel, and grandparents. The DM111 is the monitor you hand to a grandparent without explaining anything, pack in a bag for a trip, or set up as a secondary unit in a second room. Trusted by US families for over 30 years
The announcement date—February 28, 2025—should not be mistaken for Seldon’s birth date. The available reporting did not provide a precise birth date, and there is no reliable basis for saying that Seldon was born on February 28.
Seldon is the couple’s fourth publicly reported child
Musk and Zilis had already been publicly reported as the parents of three children:
- Strider and Azure, twins born in 2021.
- Arcadia, born in February 2024.
Seldon is therefore their fourth publicly reported child together. The family’s private life remains largely outside the public record, so the announcement does not establish details beyond what Zilis chose to share.

Why reports call him Musk’s “14th known child”
News organizations arrived at the “14th known child” description by counting children publicly associated with Musk across several relationships. That reporting includes five living children with Justine Wilson, three children with musician Grimes, the twins and two daughters with Zilis, and a child whose paternity was publicly claimed by Ashley St. Clair. Musk’s first child, Nevada, died in infancy.
Those parts of the public record do not all have identical levels of documentation or legal context. Some family members are private individuals, and some parentage details have been discussed through public claims or court proceedings. For that reason, “14th known child” or “at least 14 publicly reported children” is more precise than an unqualified statement that Seldon is Musk’s “14th biological child.”
Who is Shivon Zilis?
Shivon Zilis is a technology executive associated with Neuralink, Musk’s brain-implant company. She also worked with OpenAI and served on the company’s board from 2020 to 2023. Her professional background places the family announcement within the same technology and artificial-intelligence network that surrounds much of Musk’s public life.

That professional connection should not be confused with the details of the birth announcement. The available reporting supports saying that Musk and Zilis share four children. It does not establish that they are married, so describing Zilis as Musk’s wife would be inaccurate without additional verification.
Later court reporting added relationship context
In reporting on Zilis’s testimony in Musk’s litigation involving OpenAI, The Guardian described her as the mother of four of Musk’s children. The May 2026 report said Zilis testified that she and Musk became romantically involved around 2016 and decided to have children around the end of 2020. It also reported testimony that Musk referred to her as the mother of his children and said he lives with her.
This later court reporting provides context about their relationship, but it is separate from the February 2025 announcement and should not be treated as evidence about Seldon’s exact birth date. Terms such as “partner” or “romantic partner” are best used with attribution to that reporting rather than presented as an independently confirmed marital status.

A personal announcement connected to Musk’s technology orbit
The story attracted attention not only because of Musk’s family size but also because Zilis is a recognizable figure in the technology world. Her work at Neuralink and her former OpenAI board role connect her to two companies central to debates about brain-computer interfaces, artificial intelligence, and Musk’s business relationships.
Those links offer useful background for readers interested in Musk’s public life, but they do not change the central fact: Zilis announced the arrival of Seldon Lycurgus, their fourth publicly reported child together, and the exact birth date was not released in the cited coverage.
Further reading on Musk’s public life
Readers looking for broader context rather than confirmation of this specific announcement may want to explore Walter Isaacson’s Elon Musk biography. A biography can provide background on Musk’s companies, public persona, and relationships with the technology industry; it should not be treated as evidence for Seldon’s birth, the announcement date, or the reported child count.
