Oppenheimer was February 2024’s headline streaming arrival, but it was far from the month’s only worthwhile movie. The month also brought an intimate Oscar-nominated romance, Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, a wildly inventive teen comedy, two very different horror films, and several thoughtful choices for family viewing.
The selections below are an editorial shortlist—not an objective ranking—and “new to streaming” means newly added to the named U.S. service at the time. Streaming rights change, so treat the platform and date information as a historical record of the February 2024 launches rather than a guarantee of current availability.

Several of these were not new theatrical releases in February 2024. They were films becoming newly available on a particular streaming service, which makes the list especially useful for viewers deciding what to watch rather than only tracking brand-new productions.
1. Oppenheimer — Peacock, February 16, 2024
Christopher Nolan’s three-hour, R-rated historical epic was the month’s major streaming event. It dramatizes the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the scientific director of the Manhattan Project, and the moral and political consequences surrounding the creation of the atomic bomb.

Cillian Murphy’s central performance gives the film its emotional focus, while Nolan’s nonlinear structure moves between Oppenheimer’s personal history, the Los Alamos project, and the political attacks that later threatened his reputation. The result is less a straightforward biography than a portrait of ambition, secrecy, scientific responsibility, and institutional power.
Oppenheimer arrived on Peacock in the United States on February 16, 2024, ahead of the 2024 Academy Awards, where it received 13 nominations. Its scale makes it an obvious first choice for viewers who missed the theatrical release, but it is also a particularly rewarding home viewing experience for people interested in the history and ethical questions behind the spectacle.
2. Past Lives — Paramount+, February 2, 2024
Celine Song’s Past Lives is a romance about the lives people imagine they might have lived. Nora and Hae Sung are childhood friends in Seoul who reconnect years later after Nora has moved to North America. Their reunion becomes more complicated because Nora is now married to Arthur.

Song builds the drama through pauses, glances, translation, distance, and conversations that leave important feelings partly unspoken. This is not a conventional love triangle in which the “right” relationship is waiting to be chosen. It is a mature examination of affection, migration, timing, marriage, and the paths that disappear when life moves forward.
Past Lives became available on Paramount+ on February 2, 2024. It received Academy Award nominations for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, and it is the strongest choice on this list for viewers who want a quiet film that continues to unfold emotionally after the credits.
3. Priscilla — Max, February 23, 2024
Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla approaches the Presley story from Priscilla Presley’s point of view rather than treating Elvis as the unquestioned center of the mythology. Cailee Spaeny plays Priscilla, while Jacob Elordi plays Elvis.
Rank #2
Adapted from Priscilla Presley’s memoir, the film follows a young woman drawn into a relationship with an older, immensely famous man and then into a life shaped by wealth, expectation, isolation, and control. Coppola is interested in the private spaces behind celebrity: bedrooms, houses, clothing, routines, and the gradual narrowing of a person’s choices.

It is less concerned with reproducing Elvis’s greatest hits than with examining what it meant to live beside an icon. Viewers interested in female subjectivity, fashion, celebrity relationships, and intimate biographical drama will find more here than a familiar rise-and-fall story. The film arrived on Max on February 23, 2024.
4. Bottoms — Prime Video, February 13, 2024
Emma Seligman’s Bottoms is the list’s most immediate comedy recommendation—and one of its most deliberately absurd films. Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri play high-school seniors who start an underground fight club as a scheme to meet girls, despite having little credibility as tough fighters.
The premise is only the beginning. The film uses heightened performances, lurid color, cartoonish violence, and surreal escalation to turn familiar teen-comedy conventions inside out. Its characters are selfish, insecure, and frequently ridiculous, but the movie’s energy comes from allowing its queer teenage protagonists to be the agents of the chaos rather than side characters in someone else’s coming-of-age story.
With a runtime of approximately 91 minutes, Bottoms is also an easy pick when the group wants something funny and fast. It arrived on Prime Video on February 13, 2024.
5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem — Prime Video, February 21, 2024
Mutant Mayhem is a franchise film with a surprisingly specific point of view: it treats Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael as actual teenagers. Their excitement, awkwardness, impulsiveness, and desire to be accepted drive the story as much as the superhero action does.
Rank #3
The animation looks loose and handmade, drawing on notebook doodles rather than polished digital uniformity. The style gives New York and its characters a restless, sketchbook energy, while actual teenage voice performers help the turtles sound like young people rather than adults performing childhood.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’s score adds another layer to the film’s identity, combining propulsion and texture with the visual spontaneity. It is the safest blockbuster choice here for family viewing, although younger children may still find some of the mutant action and villainous imagery intense. The film arrived on Prime Video on February 21, 2024.
6. A Ghost Story — Max, February 1, 2024
David Lowery’s A Ghost Story is not a conventional supernatural thriller. Casey Affleck plays a recently deceased man who remains in the Texas house he shared with his wife, played by Rooney Mara. Covered by a simple sheet, the ghost watches time pass while the meaning of the house and the lives connected to it gradually change.

The film’s deliberately minimalist presentation is part of its argument. Its sheet-covered ghost, narrow aspect ratio, long silences, and patient pacing make the viewer experience time rather than merely hear it discussed. Grief, memory, attachment, and impermanence become physical features of the film’s form.
This is a strong recommendation for viewers who want formally adventurous cinema and a supernatural premise without conventional scares. It is moving, strange, and intentionally slow. A Ghost Story joined Max on February 1, 2024, alongside another very different kind of horror film on this list.
7. Midsommar — Max, February 1, 2024
Ari Aster’s Midsommar begins with grief and a damaged relationship before sending Dani, played by Florence Pugh, to a remote Swedish commune with her boyfriend and his friends. The group expects an unusual midsummer festival. What follows becomes increasingly disturbing, but the film’s horror is staged in bright daylight rather than conventional darkness.

That visual brightness is central to the movie’s unease. There are few shadows in which the characters—or the audience—can hide. Ritual, community, hallucinogens, inherited belief, and emotional dependence all become sources of dread as Dani’s personal crisis intersects with the commune’s customs.

Pugh’s performance anchors the film’s shift from private devastation to unsettling belonging, while Aster maintains tight control over tone and visual detail. It is a good choice for viewers who want modern folk horror with an unusually expansive atmosphere, but it contains disturbing imagery, violence, and mature themes. Midsommar arrived on Max on February 1, 2024.
8. Pride & Prejudice — Peacock, February 1, 2024
Joe Wright’s 2005 adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel remains one of the most dependable romantic rewatches in the streaming selection. Keira Knightley plays Elizabeth Bennet, whose first impressions of Matthew Macfadyen’s Mr. Darcy gradually give way to a more complicated understanding of pride, prejudice, class, and attraction.
The film’s appeal is both literary and tactile. Lush production design, sweeping landscapes, expressive camera movement, and a carefully built chemistry between Knightley and Macfadyen make the story feel immediate without discarding Austen’s social observation.
It is the most accessible Valentine’s-season recommendation here: familiar enough for a comfort watch, but richly made enough to reward another viewing. The film became available on Peacock on February 1, 2024.
9. Orion and the Dark — Netflix, February 2, 2024
Orion and the Dark follows Orion, a boy afraid of almost everything, whose anxieties are given a physical journey when the personification of the Dark takes him on a nighttime adventure. Instead of treating fear as a problem that can be dismissed with a slogan, the film gives Orion’s worries room to become part of the story’s emotional world.

Based on Emma Yarlett’s children’s book, the Netflix animated film has a stylized setting populated by personified nighttime forces. Its screenplay by Charlie Kaufman gives the premise more sophistication than a simple “conquer your fears” lesson, exploring imagination, parenthood, storytelling, and the way children understand danger.
That makes it a particularly good family choice for parents looking for animation with literary and emotional ambition. Some younger children may still find the darkness or the representations of fear unsettling, but the film is ultimately gentler and more curious than frightening. Orion and the Dark premiered on Netflix on February 2, 2024.
