The best U.S. movie additions to Prime Video in July 2024 were not dominated by acclaimed new Amazon Originals. The month was stronger for recent theatrical releases, recognizable catalog films, and a few easygoing Prime Video exclusives. For the highest-confidence picks, start with Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part One, Evil Dead Rise, The Beekeeper, Gladiator, or Love & Mercy. For lighter viewing, Space Cadet and My Spy: The Eternal City are the more obvious choices.
The dates and availability described below are historical U.S. Prime Video dates from July 2024. Streaming rights change, and a film that was included with Prime at that time may later move to a rental, purchase, channel, or different streaming-service listing.
1. Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part One — best for spectacle
Prime Video date: July 25, 2024
For viewers looking for the closest thing to a big-screen action event, Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part One was July’s strongest addition. Tom Cruise returns as IMF agent Ethan Hunt, with Christopher McQuarrie directing and Hayley Atwell joining the series as Grace.
The central threat is the Entity, a rogue artificial-intelligence system capable of destabilizing governments and manipulating the people trying to control it. That premise gives the film a contemporary technological hook, but its real attraction is physical filmmaking: elaborate stunts, international locations, practical action, and set pieces designed to be watched at maximum scale.

- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
This is also a useful choice for a franchise binge because the movie maintains the series’ unusually consistent action standard. There is one important qualification: Dead Reckoning Part One is the first half of a continuing story, not a complete conclusion. Go in expecting a substantial chapter with unresolved story threads rather than a self-contained finale.
2. Evil Dead Rise — best for intense horror
Prime Video date: July 2, 2024
Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise takes the franchise away from its familiar isolated-cabin setting and places its violence inside a condemned Los Angeles apartment building. Estranged sisters Beth and Ellie are drawn into the nightmare after an earthquake exposes a hidden chamber and unleashes flesh-possessing demons.
The change of setting gives the film a claustrophobic urban quality: stairwells, apartments, elevators, and neighboring rooms become traps rather than escape routes. It is a strong recommendation for horror viewers who want graphic, aggressive supernatural horror, not a restrained ghost story or a slow psychological thriller.
Content warning: This is extremely bloody and gruesome by design. It is not family viewing, and its violence is central to the experience rather than an occasional element around a mystery plot.
3. The Beekeeper — best for uncomplicated action
Prime Video date: July 2, 2024
Jason Statham plays a former elite operative who launches a revenge campaign against a fraud network targeting elderly victims. That premise is the movie’s most immediate hook: the injustice is easy to understand, and the response is direct, physical, and deliberately outsized.
The Beekeeper works best as a no-frills revenge thriller rather than as sophisticated espionage. It is built around Statham’s familiar action-hero persona, with escalating confrontations and a plot that treats the scammers’ organization as an entire system to be dismantled. The result is a convenient pick when you want momentum and uncomplicated payback without committing to a dense spy narrative.

4. Gladiator — best catalog classic
Prime Video date: July 1, 2024
Ridley Scott’s 2000 historical epic remains the obvious classic-film choice in this July lineup. Russell Crowe stars as Maximus, a Roman general betrayed and forced into the gladiatorial arena, while Joaquin Phoenix plays Commodus, the volatile heir whose ambition drives the central conflict.

Its July placement also made it a natural preparation film for the later Gladiator II release cycle. If you were planning to see the sequel, revisiting the original was the sensible starting point.
5. Love & Mercy — best music-biopic deep cut
Prime Video date: July 1, 2024
Love & Mercy is the less obvious and arguably more rewarding drama in the group. It portrays Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson at two different stages of his life, played by Paul Dano and John Cusack.

Rather than presenting a simple chronological rise-and-fall story, the film moves between Wilson’s early creative period and his later life, when his mental-health struggles and relationships have become central to the drama. The nonlinear structure can feel unusual for a music biopic, but it allows the movie to focus on perception, vulnerability, creativity, and the people attempting to protect or influence Wilson.
This is the choice for viewers who want a character-driven film rather than a conventional celebrity biography. The two lead performances are its strongest selling point, and its subject matter gives it more psychological depth than a standard playlist of career milestones.

6. Bob Marley: One Love — best for music and audience appeal
Prime Video date: July 23, 2024
Kingsley Ben-Adir stars as Bob Marley in this biographical musical drama, which focuses on a period of Marley’s career and personal life rather than attempting to cover every year of his life equally.
This is an accessible introduction to Marley for casual viewers and a natural choice for fans who want his music at the center of a broadly audience-friendly film. It should, however, be recommended with a critical caveat. At the time of the cited Rotten Tomatoes listing, the film had a 43% critics’ score and a 90% audience score. That large gap suggests a clear distinction between professional critical enthusiasm and popular enjoyment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIn other words, call it a solid pick for Marley fans or an audience-friendly music biopic—not one of July’s most critically acclaimed films. Viewers seeking a more probing portrait of the musician may want to pair it with a biography, documentary, or additional music-history reading.
7. Space Cadet — best new Prime Video Original for light viewing
Prime Video date: July 4, 2024
Emma Roberts plays Tiffany “Rex” Simpson, a Florida woman who submits a falsified application to enter NASA’s astronaut-training program. Her best friend Nadine helps her pursue the opportunity, creating the film’s central tension between Rex’s ambition and the credentials she does not actually possess.
Amazon positioned the movie as a comedy about self-belief, ambition, and chasing a dream despite inadequate qualifications. That makes it an easy fit for viewers wanting an optimistic workplace or fish-out-of-water comedy with a space-program setting.
Recommended Free Tools
The limitation is equally clear: Space Cadet is better suited to casual viewing than to anyone expecting a major prestige release. Independent release guides treated it as one of July’s notable Prime Video Originals, but also described it as lightweight and forgettable. Choose it for a breezy evening, not because it represents the month’s strongest filmmaking.

8. My Spy: The Eternal City — best family-oriented action option
Prime Video date: July 18, 2024
Dave Bautista returns as CIA operative JJ, with Chloe Coleman again playing Sophie. Their returning partnership moves to Europe, where a high-school choir trip becomes entangled in a nuclear plot targeting the Vatican.
The sequel is designed as a family-friendly action-comedy follow-up to 2020’s My Spy, and the appeal comes from the contrast between JJ’s professional skill set and Sophie’s teenage world. It is a useful option when a household wants action without choosing a grim adult thriller.
Still, “family-oriented” does not mean suitable for every child. Amazon classified the film as PG-13, and the nuclear-threat storyline and action content may make it a better fit for older children and teenagers than for very young viewers. Newcomers may also get more from it after watching the first My Spy.

Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black
Amazon’s July lineup also included Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black, which premiered on July 11, 2024. It is relevant if you are specifically looking for a Prime Video Original relationship drama, but it does not belong among the strongest quality-led recommendations in this list. Its most appropriate place is as an alternative for viewers who prioritize contemporary relationship melodrama over action, horror, classic cinema, or music biography.

What “on Prime Video” meant in July 2024
Release guides for July combined several kinds of availability. Some titles were Prime Video Originals or films promoted directly by Amazon as Prime Video releases. Others were catalog additions or recent theatrical films whose availability could later change. A listing date therefore does not guarantee that a title remains included with a Prime membership indefinitely.
The safest interpretation is that these were U.S. Prime Video options during the July 2024 window cited by the guides. Before watching, check the film’s current detail page for the specific label—Included with Prime, rent, buy, or an add-on channel—because licensing and regional catalogs change. The list should not be read as a current worldwide availability guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Were these movies included with a Prime membership in July 2024?
The July 2024 guides identified these films as Prime Video options, but the lineup included both Amazon-promoted releases and broader catalog titles. Availability could vary by title, region, and whether a film was included, rentable, purchasable, or available through an add-on channel. Confirm the current U.S. listing before watching.
What was the best new Prime Video Original in July 2024?
Space Cadet was the strongest fit for light, optimistic viewing, while My Spy: The Eternal City offered a family-oriented action-comedy option. Neither should be presented as a critical-consensus highlight; the month’s strongest quality-led choices were mostly theatrical releases and catalog films.
Is Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part One a complete story?
No. It is the first half of a continuing story, so it works best as part of a franchise binge rather than as a fully closed ending.
Is Evil Dead Rise appropriate for family viewing?
No. It is intensely graphic supernatural horror with substantial gore and violence. Families looking for a lighter action option should consider My Spy: The Eternal City, keeping in mind its PG-13 rating.
The Bottom Line
For the best overall July 2024 movie night, choose Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part One for spectacle, Evil Dead Rise for extreme horror, or Gladiator for a proven classic. The Beekeeper is the easiest action recommendation, Love & Mercy is the strongest deep cut, and Bob Marley: One Love is best approached as an accessible audience favorite rather than a critical triumph. The Prime Video Originals—Space Cadet and My Spy: The Eternal City—are useful when the priority is light viewing.
