30 Free Anime Websites in 2026: Legal U.S. and Regional Options

A practical 2026 guide to 30 legal ways to watch anime for free, with U.S. services, official YouTube channels, FAST platforms, regional options, and library-card access.

The best legal free anime websites and services in 2026 are Tubi, Pluto TV, RetroCrush, Plex, The Roku Channel, Crunchyroll Channel, Anime-Planet, and official YouTube channels. They offer some anime without a subscription payment, usually through advertising, free live channels, licensed uploads, or a library-card benefit.

Availability varies by country, device, title, episode, language, and date. “Free” does not mean that every show is free, that every episode includes an English dub, or that a service’s entire catalog costs nothing. The list below is primarily useful for viewers in the United States and Canada, with a separate section for Asia, Japan, and library users.

What “free anime” means here

This list uses free in the practical sense: you can watch at least some anime without paying a recurring subscription. The service may show advertisements, provide only a 24/7 linear channel, limit the catalog to selected titles, or require a participating library card. Some services also offer paid upgrades alongside their free content.

Anime licensing changes frequently. Before starting a series, check the title page for your country, confirm whether the episode is free or premium, and verify the available subtitle and dub tracks. Avoid assuming that a title available in one city, country, or device app will be available everywhere.

30 free anime websites and services

1. Tubi

Best for: a broad free, ad-supported catalog. Tubi is a free streaming service from Fox Corporation with on-demand movies and shows, including anime. Its catalog changes by title and territory, so use the Anime category or search for a specific series instead of relying on a permanent list of titles. Tubi’s own metadata documentation recognizes Anime as a searchable genre; its corporate materials are useful for confirming service announcements.

Tubi is a good first stop when you want to browse rather than follow a currently airing simulcast. Expect advertising and title rotation, and check the individual title page for subtitle or dub options.

2. Pluto TV

Best for: free live channels and a mixture of live and on-demand viewing. Pluto TV provides free, ad-supported channels and on-demand movies and shows. Its official service page describes hundreds of free channels and thousands of on-demand programs. Anime programming can appear in the channel lineup, but the selection and schedule are changeable.

Choose Pluto when you enjoy a television-style experience or want to browse a channel without selecting every episode. Search the current channel guide and on-demand library rather than assuming a particular anime channel will remain available.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. RetroCrush

Best for: classic and catalog anime. RetroCrush offers a free ad-supported tier without requiring a subscription payment, alongside a paid premium option. Its service materials emphasize anime from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, making it one of the better choices for older television series, films, and cult favorites.

RetroCrush’s availability is especially relevant to viewers in the United States and Canada, but titles still depend on territory and licensing window. The service explains its free and premium structure in its help-center description. It also distributes a separate free FAST channel through some television and streaming platforms.

4. Plex

Best for: browsing a dedicated anime shelf inside a broader free service. Plex offers free ad-supported on-demand and live programming, including a dedicated anime category. Its anime category page identifies free movies and shows that can be watched without a subscription or payment.

Plex’s catalog is geographic and title-dependent. Use the anime category as a discovery path, then open the individual title to confirm that it is free in your location and that the desired language track is offered.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. The Roku Channel

Best for: free anime programming on Roku-compatible devices and supported platforms. The Roku Channel includes free movies, shows, and live channels. Its anime selection is not a guaranteed permanent catalog: availability depends on the current channel lineup, on-demand rights, market, and device.

Open The Roku Channel, search for the title, and distinguish free programming from premium subscriptions or rentals. The service’s support documentation explains how to find free movies and television shows.

6. Crunchyroll Channel

Best for: a no-cost, television-style anime sampler. Crunchyroll Channel is a distinct free 24/7 linear channel. It does not provide the complete Crunchyroll on-demand library and is not the same as a full premium subscription. You watch whatever is scheduled on the channel rather than freely selecting every show and episode.

Crunchyroll says the channel requires no signup or payment and is available on selected platforms including Roku, LG Smart TVs, Vizio Smart TVs, Amazon Freevee, and other supported destinations. Check the current Crunchyroll Channel availability list before looking for the app on a particular television.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

7. Anime-Planet

Best for: legal streaming links integrated with anime discovery and tracking. Anime-Planet offers a selection of legally available anime episodes and explains that its watch-online videos are legal and industry-supported through partnerships with the anime industry. It is not a replacement for a complete commercial streaming catalog, but it can be a convenient way to find legitimate free episodes.

Use the site’s Watch Online area and inspect the destination and availability for each title. The selection may include only certain episodes, seasons, or regions.

  • A world of free entertainment: Enjoy a huge selection of free live TV, news, sports, movies, shows, and much more—all just a click away.
  • More streaming, less searching: With personalized picks right on your Home Screen, quick access to the sports and entertainment you watch most, and fast and easy search in one place—the days of endless scrolling are over.

8. YouTube

Best for: official episodes, films, clips, and distributor campaigns. YouTube itself does not guarantee that every upload is authorized. It is a legitimate free anime destination when the video comes from an identifiable studio, distributor, broadcaster, or rights holder.

Search for the title plus the rights holder, then inspect the channel’s About page, linked company website, upload history, and description. A complete episode or film may be available only in particular countries or for a limited licensing window. Do not treat a random re-upload, a channel using official artwork, or a video that asks you to install an unfamiliar player as an authorized source.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

9. VIZ Media YouTube

Best for: official VIZ trailers, clips, and selected licensed anime material. VIZ Media’s YouTube presence is an official destination for promotional material and, when offered, licensed anime programming. Full-episode availability changes, so check the current channel rather than expecting a fixed catalog.

Look for the official VIZ branding and verify whether a video is a complete episode, a film, a clip, or a trailer. Region restrictions can apply even when the upload is visible in search results.

10. Toei Animation YouTube channels

Best for: official Toei material and occasional title-specific campaigns. Toei’s official YouTube channels can carry trailers, promotional videos, selected episodes, or films in some territories and during particular campaigns. Availability is title- and region-specific.

Use the channel operated by Toei or linked from an official Toei property. Do not assume that a Toei-related channel has worldwide rights to every series associated with the studio.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

11. TMS Entertainment YouTube

Best for: selected TMS-related programming and licensed uploads. TMS Entertainment’s official YouTube destination may include anime-related videos, promotional material, and selected licensed programming. Check whether an upload is a full episode, a complete film, or merely an excerpt before starting it.

Because TMS titles can be licensed differently across countries, a video may be blocked or removed outside its intended market.

12. Nozomi Entertainment / Right Stuf official YouTube

Best for: distributor-operated releases and catalog promotions. Nozomi Entertainment and the former Right Stuf catalog presence can provide official anime-related uploads and promotional programming. Complete episodes vary by title and licensing window.

Use the distributor-operated channel rather than an unaffiliated channel that has copied the same artwork or episode. The distinction matters: official availability can end when distribution rights change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

13. Crunchyroll YouTube

Best for: clips, previews, features, and occasional free programming. The official Crunchyroll YouTube channel is useful for trailers, interviews, clips, previews, and selected free videos. It should not be described as access to the full Crunchyroll library or as a substitute for Crunchyroll’s on-demand service.

If you find a complete episode, check the video’s region, language, and availability status. A trailer or promotional clip is not the same thing as a free full episode.

14. Muse Asia YouTube

Best for: viewers in supported Asian territories. Muse Asia is an official regional distributor channel that can offer licensed anime free in parts of Asia. Advertising, membership requirements, title selection, and viewing rights vary by country.

This is generally not a U.S. recommendation unless the specific video is confirmed to play legally in the United States. Regional blocking is common, so use the channel’s own current availability notice.

  • Supports HDMI ARC - Sends audio directly from the HDMI jack to a compatible soundbar or AV receiver, removing the need for an extra cable.

15. Ani-One Asia YouTube

Best for: official regional anime distribution in parts of Asia. Ani-One Asia is a Medialink-operated anime destination. Some viewing may be free, while other titles or episodes may require a channel membership; country and title restrictions also apply.

Check the individual video and current channel terms. Do not assume that a title available on Ani-One Asia is authorized for North American viewing.

16. TMS Anime and official English-language TMS uploads

Best for: locating separately branded TMS playlists or English-language releases. TMS may publish selected classics, episodes, films, or playlists through an official TMS Anime or other official English-language channel. This is a channel-level discovery route rather than a promise of a stable, complete TMS catalog.

Confirm that the channel is linked to TMS or another identified rights holder, and check whether the upload is complete and available in your territory.

17. Xumo Play

Best for: free FAST viewing when an anime channel is in the current lineup. Xumo Play offers free ad-supported live and on-demand programming. Anime availability is channel-dependent and can change as the lineup rotates.

Search the current guide for anime-related channels and check whether a program is live-only or also available on demand. The presence of one anime program does not imply a permanent anime library.

18. Sling Freestream

Best for: free channels without a conventional paid Sling subscription. Sling Freestream is Sling’s free, ad-supported environment. Anime programming may appear through partner channels, but it should be treated as rotating availability rather than a guaranteed permanent catalog.

Use the current Freestream guide and confirm that the program is marked free. Paid Sling packages and free Freestream channels are separate access paths.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

19. Samsung TV Plus

Best for: Samsung device owners who want built-in FAST channels. Samsung TV Plus is a free FAST service available on supported Samsung devices and platforms. Anime channels and individual programs can vary by country, device, and current lineup.

Open the live guide or search function on your supported device. A channel available on one Samsung TV Plus market may not appear in another.

20. VIZIO WatchFree+

Best for: supported VIZIO televisions and devices. VIZIO WatchFree+ provides free live and on-demand programming. It has carried anime-related FAST channels, including Crunchyroll Channel, but the lineup depends on market and hardware.

Check the current WatchFree+ guide and device support. If Crunchyroll Channel is listed, it remains a linear sampler—not the entire Crunchyroll on-demand catalog.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

21. LG Channels

Best for: compatible LG television owners. LG Channels is a free FAST destination on supported LG televisions. Crunchyroll Channel launched on LG Channels in the United States, giving compatible LG owners another way to access a free anime channel.

Availability depends on the television model, region, and current channel lineup. Use the LG Channels guide and search for the channel rather than assuming every LG television has identical programming.

  • Bright, clear picture: Bring entertainment to life on our 24" flat screen TV with bright 720p HD—perfect for bedrooms, kitchens, and beyond. Roku Smart Picture cleans up incoming TV signals, optimizes them, and chooses the right picture mode.
  • Seamless streaming: With fast Wi-Fi and apps that launch in a snap, Roku Select Series TVs get you to your entertainment quickly. You get excellent picture quality, clear sound, automatic updates, and more. It’s simple to use. Hard to outgrow.
  • TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.

  • More streaming, less searching: With personalized picks right on your Home Screen, quick access to the sports and entertainment you watch most, and fast and easy search in one place—the days of endless scrolling are over.

22. TCLtv+

Best for: supported TCL devices. TCLtv+ is a free streaming destination associated with supported TCL platforms. Reporting in 2026 identified anime-focused FAST channels, including Anime 24/7, launching on TCLtv+ and compatible TCL devices.

Because this lineup is particularly subject to launch timing, market, and device changes, verify that the anime channel is present on your specific TCLtv+ installation before treating it as an available option.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

23. Amazon Freevee and free Prime Video channels

Best for: viewers already using Amazon’s free-content environment. Amazon’s free ad-supported environment has carried Crunchyroll Channel. Amazon’s naming, placement, and free-channel organization can change, so it is more accurate to describe this as a free channel destination than as a permanent standalone “Freevee anime library.”

Search Amazon for the channel or browse the free live-TV section, then check whether the program is free, ad-supported, or part of a paid subscription. The current Crunchyroll Channel support page is the better authority for confirmed platform availability.

24. RetroCrush FAST channel

Best for: watching RetroCrush programming through a live channel. In addition to the RetroCrush website and app, the service’s free FAST channel has been distributed through platforms such as Samsung TV Plus, The Roku Channel, and VIZIO WatchFree+.

This is a channel destination, not an entirely separate catalog owner. The shows, schedule, and platform availability can differ from RetroCrush’s on-demand service. RetroCrush discusses distribution news and platform availability through its service news materials.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

25. Plex’s anime category

Best for: readers who want a direct anime browsing path. This entry is a separate discovery route within Plex rather than a separate streaming company or catalog. Open Plex’s on-demand area and choose its anime category to see the current free selection in your region.

Do not count the category as additional titles on top of Plex’s overall catalog. Its value is convenience: it takes you directly to anime instead of requiring a broad search through every free movie and show.

26. Bilibili

Best for: supported international markets, particularly viewers checking Asian releases. Bilibili’s international service can offer selected anime episodes free, often with advertising or distinctions between free and member access. The U.S. catalog, simulcast status, language tracks, and availability must be checked title by title.

Use Bilibili only where the specific program is officially available in your country. A title visible in an international search result may still be region-locked.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

27. WeTV

Best for: selected regional anime and animated series. Tencent’s international WeTV platform may offer selected anime or animated programming free with ads in supported regions. Availability is volatile and can differ between the website, mobile app, and television platforms.

Look for the free or ad-supported label on the individual title page. Do not treat WeTV as a universally available U.S. anime service.

28. TVer

Best for: viewers in Japan catching up on Japanese television broadcasts. TVer is Japan’s official ad-supported catch-up portal and can include anime among its television programming. Episodes often have short availability windows after broadcast, and the service is primarily Japan-only.

TVer is therefore not a practical general recommendation for most U.S. readers. It is useful when you are in Japan and want to watch an officially licensed catch-up episode during its permitted window.

  • Free Content: Stream for free. Access over 1 million free movies and TV episodes from popular ad-supported streaming apps like Fire TV Channels, Tubi, and Pluto TV. Subscriptions may be required. Feature and content availability may vary.

29. ABEMA

Best for: free anime channels and programming in Japan. ABEMA is a Japanese streaming and live-channel platform with anime programming and free ad-supported viewing in Japan. Geographic restrictions are material, and some programs or features may require a paid plan.

Check the program page and country access before relying on ABEMA. A Japanese free stream is not automatically available to viewers elsewhere.

30. Kanopy or Hoopla

Best for: people with a participating public-library or university-library card. Kanopy and Hoopla can provide legally licensed anime films or series at no additional charge to eligible patrons. The catalog is determined by your library’s licensing package, lending model, monthly limits, and local budget—not by a universal Kanopy or Hoopla catalog.

To check: open your library’s website, search for Kanopy or Hoopla, sign in with your library card, and search for the exact anime title. If your library does not participate or the title is absent, the service cannot provide it for free through that library. This is one of the most legitimate ways to watch selected anime without advertising, but it is not guaranteed access to current simulcasts.

How to find a specific anime for free

  1. Search the title on the broad services first. Try Tubi, Pluto TV, Plex, The Roku Channel, and RetroCrush. Search the exact English title and, if necessary, its Japanese or alternate title.
  2. Check the title page, not just the search result. Confirm that the episode is playable in your country, that the program is free rather than premium, and that the desired subtitles or dub are available.
  3. Look at official YouTube destinations. Search the rights holder or distributor—such as VIZ, Toei, TMS, Crunchyroll, Muse Asia, or Ani-One Asia—and inspect the channel before playing an upload.
  4. Try your library. Search both the library catalog and its Kanopy or Hoopla collection. Library access can differ substantially from one town or university to another.
  5. For television viewing, check the device’s live-TV guide. Crunchyroll Channel, RetroCrush FAST, Samsung TV Plus, LG Channels, VIZIO WatchFree+, Xumo Play, Sling Freestream, and similar services are often easier to find through the device’s channel guide than through a general web search.
  6. Recheck if the title disappears. Free rights expire and move between services. A missing episode may be a licensing change rather than a playback error.

How to watch free anime on a television

First, check whether your smart TV, streaming box, or game console supports the service. Crunchyroll identifies Roku, LG Smart TVs, Vizio Smart TVs, and Amazon Freevee among its Crunchyroll Channel destinations, while FAST services such as Samsung TV Plus, LG Channels, and VIZIO WatchFree+ are tied more closely to compatible devices and markets.

If your television does not have the needed app or channel, a Roku Streaming Stick 4K is one practical device-enablement option: Roku documents it as an internet streaming player, and Crunchyroll lists Roku as a destination for its free channel. It can help add supported streaming apps to a compatible television, but buying a streaming device does not make every listed service, title, episode, or premium feature free. Confirm television compatibility, internet access, and the current app lineup before buying.

How to tell whether a free anime upload is legal

Prefer a service operated by a recognizable distributor, broadcaster, studio, library, or established streaming company. On YouTube, look for:

  • A channel clearly associated with the rights holder or licensed distributor
  • A link from the company’s official website or other verified corporate presence
  • Descriptions that identify the program and territory rather than vague “watch now” language
  • A normal YouTube player with no demand to install a special extension, APK, or unknown video player
  • Clear information about whether the video is a full episode, film, trailer, or clip

Copyright and licensing enforcement remains active. The U.S. Trade Representative’s 2025 Notorious Markets review describes ongoing commercial-scale piracy concerns. That is why sites such as HiAnime, 9anime, AniWave, Animeflix, and similar unauthorized aggregators are deliberately excluded from this list.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Unauthorized streaming sites are also a poor safety trade-off: deceptive advertisements, fake play buttons, scams, malicious browser extensions, and extensive tracking are common risks associated with piracy ecosystems. A site offering every newly released episode in every language for free is not automatically legitimate; unusually broad availability is a reason to verify the source, not a reason to trust it.

Important limitations before you choose

  • Catalog rotation: Tubi, Pluto TV, Plex, FAST channels, and distributor channels can add or remove titles without notice.
  • Geography: Muse Asia, Ani-One Asia, TVer, ABEMA, Bilibili, and WeTV are particularly dependent on regional rights. Japan-only or Asia-focused services should not be presented as general U.S. options.
  • Linear versus on-demand: Crunchyroll Channel and most FAST channels let you watch a schedule. They do not necessarily let you start any episode at any time.
  • Free versus premium: RetroCrush has both free and paid tiers, and other services may place rentals, subscriptions, or premium episodes beside free programming.
  • Language tracks: A legally free episode may have subtitles but no dub, or a dub but no subtitles in your preferred language.
  • Device support: A website may work in a browser while its television app is unavailable, or a FAST channel may appear only on selected hardware.
  • Library access: Kanopy and Hoopla depend on your specific library’s licensing and lending rules.

For the most accurate result, search the title immediately before watching and verify the country, episode, language, and access label. No static list can preserve a changing streaming catalog indefinitely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these free anime websites legal?

The services and destinations listed here are intended to be legal routes when you use their official websites, apps, channels, or library integrations. On YouTube, authorization depends on the specific channel and upload, so prefer identifiable rights holders and licensed distributors. Unauthorized aggregators such as HiAnime, 9anime, AniWave, and Animeflix are excluded.

Is the entire Crunchyroll library free on Crunchyroll Channel?

No. Crunchyroll Channel is a separate free 24/7 linear sampler. It requires no signup or payment, but it does not provide the complete Crunchyroll on-demand library or let you freely select every episode.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I watch new anime for free?

Sometimes, but it depends on the title, country, licensing arrangement, and release window. Official YouTube campaigns, free ad-supported services, regional distributors, and library platforms may carry selected new or older titles. Current simulcast availability should always be checked title by title.

Which option is best for classic anime?

RetroCrush is the strongest first choice because its catalog focuses heavily on anime from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Plex, Tubi, official TMS uploads, and RetroCrush’s FAST channel may also have older titles, depending on the current catalog and region.

Can I watch free anime with a library card?

Possibly. Participating libraries may offer Kanopy or Hoopla, but each library chooses its own licensing package and lending limits. Sign in through your local library and search for the exact title rather than assuming it is available everywhere.

The Bottom Line

Start with Tubi, Pluto TV, Plex, and RetroCrush for on-demand browsing; use Crunchyroll Channel when a free scheduled anime channel is enough; and check official YouTube channels for licensed uploads. Library users should also search Kanopy and Hoopla. Always verify the title, episode, language, device, and country on the day you watch, and avoid unauthorized aggregators that trade convenience for copyright, privacy, and security risks.
