What not to assume about Max
- The movie is not necessarily free: Max generally requires a paid subscription, and the film’s inclusion should be confirmed for your account and region.
- Do not assume every Max plan offers the same resolution, downloads, audio options, or simultaneous streams.
- Do not assume the U.S. availability applies to every country. Warner’s service terms explain that content can be limited by geographic region, supported devices, subscription level, or a particular availability window.
How to rent or buy it digitally
If you do not want a Max subscription, you can rent or purchase A Minecraft Movie from supported digital movie retailers. The official Minecraft website announced the digital home release on May 13, 2025 and said it included behind-the-scenes footage.
A current U.S. Google Play listing captured the following 4K options:
- 4K rental: $3.99
- 4K purchase: $14.99
Those are captured storefront prices, not permanent price guarantees. Retailers may change prices, offer different resolutions, or show different options depending on location, device, account, and time.

Renting versus buying
- Rent if you expect to watch once or want the lowest one-time cost. A rental normally has a limited viewing period, so read the retailer’s rental terms before starting playback.
- Buy if you expect repeated family viewings or want a digital copy tied to your retailer account. A purchase is still subject to that retailer’s account, app, device, and service policies; it is not the same as owning an unrestricted video file.
Can you watch it through Movies Anywhere?
A Minecraft Movie is listed in the Movies Anywhere catalog, supporting a digital-ownership path for eligible linked accounts. Movies Anywhere can allow eligible Warner titles purchased through participating retailers to appear across linked platforms, but the result depends on the title, retailer, account links, and regional eligibility.

Buying the physical release
The film’s reported physical release date was June 24, 2025, with 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions. Physical media is the clearest option if you want playback without depending on a subscription catalog or an internet connection after the disc has been obtained.
Before ordering, check the exact listing carefully. “Blu-ray,” “4K UHD,” and “DVD” are different formats, and a package may or may not include:

- a standard Blu-ray disc;
- a 4K UHD disc;
- a DVD copy;
- a digital redemption code;
- a collectible SteelBook or other special packaging.
Availability, sellers, pricing, region compatibility, and digital-code inclusion vary by retailer and edition. A 4K UHD disc also requires a compatible 4K UHD player and display; a regular Blu-ray player cannot play a 4K UHD disc.
