Haikyuu!! is returning in 2027, but the announced continuation is not a confirmed fifth television season. The next part of the anime is currently a two-work project: the theatrical film Haikyu!! The Movie: VS The Little Giant and the companion special anime Haikyu!! Where Monsters Go.
The film will follow Karasuno High versus Kamomedai High, while the special will cover Fukurodani Academy versus Mujinazaka High. Exact Japanese release dates, international theatrical plans, and streaming details have not yet been announced in the official information reviewed as of August 11, 2026.
Is Haikyuu!! getting a fifth season?
Not in the form currently confirmed. The television anime has four seasons:
- Haikyu!!
- Haikyu!! Second Season
- Haikyu!!: Karasuno High School vs. Shiratorizawa Academy
- Haikyu!! TO THE TOP
TO THE TOP ended in 2020. Although fans and headlines often call the continuation “Haikyuu!! Season 5” or the “final season,” the official project is being released as theatrical and special anime productions rather than as an announced fifth TV season.

The clearest current update came from Production I.G on December 22, 2025. It confirmed that the two works previously announced in March 2025 are scheduled for release in 2027. The official project information identifies the two titles as Haikyu!! The Movie: VS The Little Giant and Haikyu!! Where Monsters Go.
What is the Haikyuu!! final project?
The 2027 continuation covers two parallel quarterfinal matches from the Spring High tournament. It is therefore not simply a single match divided into two film-length installments.
| Release | Format | Story | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Haikyu!! The Movie: VS The Little Giant | Theatrical film | Karasuno High versus Kamomedai High | Confirmed for 2027; exact date not announced |
| Haikyu!! Where Monsters Go | Special anime | Fukurodani Academy versus Mujinazaka High | Confirmed for 2027; exact date not announced |
The word “final” should also be treated carefully. The announcements confirm these two 2027 releases, but they do not state that every remaining manga chapter—including all post-tournament and time-skip material—will be animated in them. The safest description is that they are the next announced works continuing the Spring High adaptation.
What will VS The Little Giant cover?
VS The Little Giant will adapt the Spring High quarterfinal between Karasuno High and Kamomedai High. Kamomedai is led by Kourai Hoshiumi, an elite player whose reputation and playing style create the film’s central comparison with Shoyo Hinata.

Hoshiumi is also associated with that nickname, making the match more than a conventional tournament game: it places two undersized but exceptionally skilled high-level attackers in direct competition.
The official description frames the story as Hinata versus Hoshiumi within the larger Karasuno–Kamomedai match. It is a major match from Haruichi Furudate’s original manga, not an anime-original scenario.

What will Where Monsters Go cover?
The companion special anime will depict the other major quarterfinal held at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on the same day: Fukurodani Academy versus Mujinazaka High.

Mujinazaka is led by Wakatsu Kiryū, another nationally recognized star. The matchup gives the 2027 project a second viewpoint on the same stage of the Spring High tournament, rather than restricting the continuation entirely to Karasuno’s game.
At present, the official information does not establish whether the film and special will be released on the same day. It also does not specify the special’s runtime or whether it will receive a conventional international theatrical release.
What happened before the 2027 releases?
The first Final-project release was Haikyu!! The Movie: The Dumpster Battle, which opened in Japan on February 16, 2024. It adapted Karasuno’s long-awaited Spring High third-round match against Nekoma, commonly known as “The Dumpster Battle.”
The film follows the Inarizaki match covered in TO THE TOP and begins the next phase of the national tournament. Its Japanese home-video specification lists an approximate runtime of 85 minutes. The Japanese deluxe Blu-ray edition was released on October 30, 2024 and includes a two-disc package, English subtitles, audio commentary, and a 100-minute bonus disc.

If you want a physical catch-up option before the 2027 continuation, the The Dumpster Battle Blu-ray is the most directly relevant release. It contains the already released film—not either of the unreleased 2027 projects—so check the edition, region compatibility, subtitles, and retailer availability before buying.
Disclosure: This article may include a product recommendation that could be eligible for referral revenue. It does not change the release information or imply that the 2027 films are available now.
Where can international viewers watch the anime?
Crunchyroll announced international streaming availability for The Dumpster Battle beginning October 31, 2024, including subtitled and dubbed versions in North America, Central America, South America, Europe excluding France, Africa excluding Southern Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and the CIS.
Those territories describe the announcement, not a permanent guarantee. Streaming rights can change by country and date, so viewers should check the current listing in their own region. The reviewed information does not confirm a streaming service or streaming date for either 2027 release.
The official Japanese on-demand page lists The Dumpster Battle on several services, including Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ and Hulu. That is Japan-specific information and should not be interpreted as proof that the same services carry the film in the United States or elsewhere.
How much of the manga remains?
The two announced 2027 works cover important Spring High quarterfinal material, but the official announcements do not confirm that they will animate the entire remainder of the manga.
That distinction matters because the phrase “final season” can suggest a complete adaptation of the ending. The current announcements do not confirm a separate fifth TV season, a full adaptation of every remaining tournament match, or an adaptation of all post-tournament and time-skip chapters.

Readers who want to continue from the anime can use Haikyuu manga volume 33 as a source-material starting point for the section associated with The Dumpster Battle. Editions, translations, numbering conventions, language options, and availability vary by marketplace, so verify the specific edition before ordering. Readers who want the complete story should begin earlier rather than assume a single volume contains all material omitted from the anime.
Spoiler warning: The manga continues well beyond the two matches announced for 2027. The precise amount of manga material that will be adapted after those releases remains unconfirmed.
What has not been announced?
As of August 11, 2026, the following details remain open:
- The exact Japanese release date for VS The Little Giant.
- The exact Japanese release date for Where Monsters Go.
- Whether both works will premiere on the same day.
- The runtime of either 2027 release.
- The international theatrical rollout.
- The international streaming platforms and dates.
- The complete English-language cast and dub schedule.
- The theme songs and performing artists.
- Whether more Haikyuu!! anime projects will follow these two releases.
In particular, no official international release schedule for the 2027 projects was found in the reviewed material. A Japanese 2027 announcement should not be rewritten as a confirmed North American, European, or worldwide premiere.

For an anime-only viewer, this is the clearest order:
- Haikyu!! Season 1
- Haikyu!! Second Season
- Haikyu!!: Karasuno High School vs. Shiratorizawa Academy
- Haikyu!! TO THE TOP Season 4
- Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle
- Haikyu!! The Movie: VS The Little Giant, when released
- Haikyu!! Where Monsters Go, when released
The first four entries establish Karasuno, its principal rivals, and the tournament progression. The Dumpster Battle follows the Inarizaki match from Season 4 and moves the story into the next Spring High round. The two 2027 releases then present the announced quarterfinal stories.
The answer in one sentence
Haikyuu!! is returning in 2027 through a film and a special anime—not a confirmed Season 5 television series—with Karasuno versus Kamomedai in VS The Little Giant and Fukurodani versus Mujinazaka in Where Monsters Go.
