Who is Charlie Ocean Goldblum?
Charlie Ocean Goldblum was born on July 4, 2015. He was Goldblum and Livingston’s first child and was born while Goldblum was in Albuquerque working on Independence Day: Resurgence. The timing inspired some of the attention around the announcement, but the name itself has a more personal explanation.
In an interview with Parade, Goldblum said that Charlie was a form of “Chuckie,” the nickname of an uncle he loved. That uncle died while serving as a World War II pilot. Goldblum said the middle name Ocean reflected his and Livingston’s love of the ocean.
Charlie has occasionally appeared in family social-media posts and interviews, but the available information does not establish a public career or a fixed set of professional ambitions. In February 2024, Livingston shared a post showing Charlie playing piano at age 8, an appropriate detail to report as a snapshot rather than evidence that he is a professional musician or child prodigy. PEOPLE’s report via Yahoo covered the post.
Goldblum also told Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi in April 2024 that both boys were studying piano. He mentioned that Charlie sometimes made his coffee, an anecdote that illustrated the family’s everyday routine and Goldblum’s emphasis on giving the boys age-appropriate responsibilities.

Who is River Joe Goldblum?
River Joe Goldblum was born on April 7, 2017, at 8:53 a.m. Livingston announced his birth with a photograph of the family of four. In that announcement, she described Charlie as a caring older brother.
The name River Joe has been publicly confirmed, but the available birth-announcement coverage does not provide a similarly detailed explanation for the choice of either name. River is sometimes described in entertainment coverage through brief family anecdotes, rather than through a formal profile—and that distinction matters because he is a minor who is not a public performer.
Goldblum has spoken about River in the context of ordinary sibling life, piano study and the gradual development of independence. A December 2024 PEOPLE interview published by Yahoo noted that River was missing some baby teeth and had recently learned to whistle. Those details describe what his father observed at that time; they should not be turned into permanent personality traits or a larger public biography.

The same caution applies to claims about Charlie’s future: piano lessons and a family video are evidence of exposure to music, not proof of a planned entertainment career.
Why did Jeff Goldblum become a father later in life?
Goldblum became a first-time father at 62. He has said that he did not previously feel ready for parenthood and that the decision developed after he and Livingston had been together for several years. According to his interviews with Parade and Table for Two, the couple discussed the possibility with his therapist before marrying and having children.

In a Guardian interview, Goldblum discussed becoming a father in his 60s and his changing perspective on age. He has also said he is glad he waited. That is his personal account of timing and readiness—not medical advice, a judgment about other parents, or a general claim that later parenthood is better.
The chronology is straightforward: Goldblum and Livingston married in late 2014, Charlie was born in July 2015, and River followed in April 2017. Goldblum’s comments suggest that parenthood was a carefully considered decision for the couple rather than an unexpected addition to his life story.

Goldblum’s clearest account of his parenting philosophy came during his April 30, 2024 appearance on Table for Two. He described family life as joyful, energetic and sometimes volatile. A typical morning, as he described it, could involve breakfast, piano practice and an argument between the siblings—an intentionally ordinary picture of life with young children.
“Row your own boat” means self-reliance
Goldblum said he wanted Charlie and River to learn how to support themselves. His phrase “row your own boat” was shorthand for helping them work out what they want, what they need and how their abilities and interests might meet those needs. He connected that outlook with his own childhood work ethic and with the piano jobs he took on when he was young.
Some headlines have transformed that comment into a claim that Goldblum is disinheriting his sons. That is not supported by the interview. Goldblum discussed independence and the importance of learning to stand on one’s own; he did not present a legally binding estate decision. No public will, estate document or direct statement confirming disinheritance has been verified.

Humor is part of the family’s approach
In a separate December 2024 PEOPLE interview, Goldblum said he had been advised not to forget that children are funny. He described finding humor in the disorder of family life and said that his wife, children and dog help keep him grounded. That adds another theme to his public description of parenting: the ability to stay present and laugh at the chaos, rather than trying to make every moment orderly or profound.

In July 2018, Livingston said that the boys did not use cell phones or iPads at home and were encouraged to invent their own play. That was a description of the family’s approach when Charlie was 3 and River was about 15 months old. It should not be presented as a current household rule in 2026 without a newer statement from the family.
Where is the Goldblum family now?
A November 2025 Town & Country profile reported that Goldblum and Livingston were raising Charlie and River in Florence, Italy, while spending summers at Goldblum’s home in the Hollywood Hills. Goldblum said the family wanted to expose the boys to what he considered a healthy, nourishing environment, although he acknowledged that the children liked Los Angeles.
That report describes the family’s arrangement at the time of the interview. It is not proof of permanent legal residency, a fixed custody arrangement or an unchanging travel schedule. Family living situations can change, and no more specific claim is needed to answer who Goldblum’s children are.

No. They are the minor children of a famous actor and musician who sometimes accompany their parents in public, but they do not have public entertainment careers. Their parents have generally kept them out of the spotlight.

There have nevertheless been a few documented family appearances:
- On April 13, 2025, Goldblum, Livingston and both boys were photographed at a Como 1907–Torino soccer match in Como, Italy. PEOPLE’s report via Yahoo and HELLO! described it as a rare public appearance.
- In February 2026, the family attended events connected with the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, including figure-skating-related events. E! News identified the boys as Charlie and River and again characterized the outing as unusual for the family.
A photograph at a match or Olympic event shows that the family attended that event; it does not establish a child’s permanent interest in soccer, skating, travel, horses or any other activity. Similarly, an occasional family post offers a momentary glimpse, not a complete account of either boy’s life.
What is not publicly known about Goldblum’s sons?
The public record supports a limited family profile, not an investigative biography of two minors. Reliable coverage does not establish:
- the boys’ school names or detailed education;
- their private friends, regular schedules or exact daily routines;
- medical information or other personal details;
- their finances, trust arrangements or inheritance plans;
- confirmed career ambitions or professional futures; or
- a permanent residence or recurring travel pattern beyond the limited, attributed reporting above.
