Creature Commandos, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, Joker: Folie à Deux, and Juror #2 are among the biggest December 2024 arrivals on Max. The month also brings a large December 1 library-film drop, returning seasons of Bookie and Hard Knocks, documentaries, comedy specials, kids’ programming, Discovery-network reality series, and live sports.
This is the fullest publicly documented U.S. Max schedule for December 2024. “New” means new to Max, not necessarily a new 2024 release. Episode batches, specials, podcasts, and sports are identified separately from new movies and series. Warner Bros. Discovery’s official monthly list says it may not be comprehensive and is subject to change, so this calendar also includes three films announced in later official updates.

December 1 — 55 library movies and a Teen Titans Go! special
December begins with the month’s largest movie addition. These films span 1926 to 2017, so they are new to Max rather than new releases. The selection includes classic Hollywood, crime films, dramas, comedies, family titles, fantasy, and international cinema.

New episodes, batches, and finales
“Arriving on Max” does not always mean a complete new season or a new series premiere. The official schedule also includes individual episode drops and batches:
- Creature Commandos: Two episodes arrived December 5, with the remaining episodes rolling out weekly through January 16, 2025.

Some secondary streaming roundups also listed the season 1 finale of Like Water for Chocolate on December 8 and the season 1 finale of Second Chance Stage on December 19. Those are episodes of shows already in progress, not new December series, so they are not counted as new-title premieres in the calendar above.
What kind of programming is arriving?
Max Originals and HBO programming
The December schedule is not made up exclusively of Max Originals. It combines Max-branded originals, HBO films and documentaries, Warner Bros. theatrical titles, Cartoon Network and kids’ programming, and licensed or Discovery-network series from brands such as Food Network, HGTV, MotorTrend, TLC, ID, CNN, and others.
- Max Originals: Creature Commandos, Fast Friends, and Rose Matafeo: On and On and On are explicitly identified as Max Originals in the supplied announcements.
- HBO and Max nonfiction: Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story and Nature of the Crime debuted on HBO and Max, while For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story is a 2000 HBO Original film arriving on Max for the first time.
- Warner Bros. films: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Joker: Folie à Deux were announced as streaming exclusively on Max, and Juror #2 was scheduled as a Max streaming exclusive.
- Discovery and lifestyle programming: The month includes reality, home renovation, automotive, food, true crime, and outdoor titles such as Home Town, Truck U, Fear Thy Neighbor, Very Scary People, and several Mecum specials.

Live sports on Max in December 2024
Live sports are kept separate from the movie-and-series calendar because availability can depend on rights, plan, location, and local telecast restrictions. The official Max release also warned that its sports list might not be comprehensive. The announced U.S. events included:
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| December 3 | NBA: Memphis Grizzlies at Dallas Mavericks, 7:30 p.m. ET; Golden State Warriors at Denver Nuggets, 10 p.m. ET. Also Netherlands vs. U.S. Women’s National Team at 2:30 p.m. ET. |

| December 21 | College Football Playoff first-round games at noon and 4 p.m. ET; matchups were initially listed as to be determined. |

All times in the sports table are Eastern, and local blackouts or other restrictions may apply.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why a title might not appear on Max when expected
- You may be outside the United States. This calendar is U.S.-only. Max catalogs and release dates vary by country; the Max help center provides market-specific availability information.
- You may be looking for a 2024 movie rather than a movie that is new to Max. Many December 1 additions are decades old.
- The title may be an episode batch rather than a full season. Check the season and episode numbers for Teen Titans Go!, Batwheels, and Evolve and Flex.
- The HBO broadcast and Max streaming dates may differ. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice streamed December 6 and aired on HBO December 7; Joker: Folie à Deux streamed December 13 and aired on HBO December 14.
- The release time may vary. Max does not promise one universal drop time for every title. The official schedule specifically gave Bookie a 9 p.m. ET rollout, but other catalog and HBO titles may become available at different times. Max says most new HBO shows and movies are available when they air, while some can be added within 24 hours.
- The schedule could change. Warner Bros. Discovery’s own monthly list says it may not be comprehensive and is subject to change.
How complete is this list?
The November 21 official monthly announcement contains the backbone of this calendar. Three later official film announcements add Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Joker: Folie à Deux, and For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story. Using an editorial counting method that treats each dated title, episode batch, special, podcast, and listed sports event as a separate line item, the published schedule and later additions total 113 line items. That is an editorial count, not an official Max tally.

The distinction matters: Max explicitly cautioned that its list might not be complete. This article therefore describes the schedule as the fullest publicly documented U.S. calendar, rather than claiming that no unannounced or quietly added title existed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does “new” mean these movies were released in 2024?
No. In this calendar, “new” means newly available on Max. The December 1 film drop includes movies released between 1926 and 2017, including Key Largo, The Maltese Falcon, Meet Me in St. Louis, The Goonies, and Megamind.
Is this the international Max schedule?
No. This is the U.S. Max schedule. Max availability and release dates can differ by country, so international subscribers should check the programming information for their own market.
Are Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Joker: Folie à Deux streaming on Max or only airing on HBO?
Both were scheduled to stream on Max before their HBO linear premieres. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice arrived on Max December 6 and aired on HBO December 7. Joker: Folie à Deux arrived on Max December 13 and aired on HBO December 14.

Are the sports events included in the regular Max subscription?
The official December schedule listed the sports events as Max programming, but availability can depend on plan, location, rights, and local restrictions. Blackouts and telecast limitations may apply.
Why are some December shows listed as episodes instead of new series?
Max’s monthly list includes new episode batches and individual drops. For example, Teen Titans Go! season 8, Batwheels season 2, and Evolve and Flex were already in progress or released in batches. They are included in the date-by-date calendar but should not be mistaken for brand-new series.
The Bottom Line
December 2024 is a particularly broad month on U.S. Max: major Warner Bros. films and DC programming sit alongside HBO documentaries, classic movies, children’s animation, true crime, reality series, automotive shows, comedy, and live sports. The most notable documentary choices are Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, Nature of the Crime, and Frozen Planet II; for film viewers, the key dates are December 6, 13, and 20.
Use the dates as the announced U.S. schedule, not as a guarantee of identical availability in every market or at every hour. Max’s own release list was subject to change, and the three late announcements show why checking the service around the listed date remains worthwhile.
