Bryan Johnson is the entrepreneur at the center of Don’t Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever, a Netflix documentary about wealth, mortality and the extreme lengths one person will go to in pursuit of a longer life.
Johnson is not a doctor who discovered a proven cure for aging. He is the founder of Braintree, the payments company sold to PayPal for about $800 million in 2013. He now spends much of his time funding technology, tracking his own biology and promoting Blueprint, a tightly controlled longevity program that he says is designed to slow biological aging.
Who is Bryan Johnson?
Bryan Johnson is an American entrepreneur, investor and longevity advocate. He was born on August 22, 1977, and studied at Brigham Young University before earning an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
His public profile changed dramatically after he began publishing details of his personal health program. Johnson shares information about his meals, sleep, exercise, supplements, blood tests and other measurements online. His stated ambition goes beyond living a little longer: he has repeatedly described a desire to prevent death, or at least to push human longevity far beyond current limits.

That ambition is the central tension in his story. Johnson has substantial money, access to specialists and the time to organize his life around health data. But none of that means he has proved that aging can be reversed or that his program can make anyone immortal.
How did Bryan Johnson make his fortune?
Johnson made his money in online payments. He founded Braintree in 2007, building the company around payment-processing tools for internet and mobile businesses. Braintree later acquired Venmo in 2012.
PayPal acquired Braintree in 2013 for approximately $800 million. The deal gave Johnson the capital to move into science and technology investing. He is generally described as a wealthy millionaire, multimillionaire or centimillionaire. There is no reliable public evidence that he is a confirmed billionaire, and online net-worth estimates vary widely.
After the sale, Johnson founded the OS Fund with roughly $100 million of his own money. The fund invested in fields including:

- Genomics and synthetic biology
- Energy
- Advanced materials
- Other technologies intended to address large-scale scientific problems
He later founded Kernel, a neurotechnology company developing non-invasive systems for measuring brain activity. Kernel describes its systems as research tools; they are not presented as devices approved to diagnose or treat disease.
What is Blueprint?
Blueprint is Johnson’s personal longevity project and a commercial health brand. It combines a highly structured diet with exercise, sleep routines, medical testing, supplements and other interventions. Johnson treats his body as an ongoing experiment, using measurements such as blood markers, fitness data and molecular tests to assess whether his health is changing.
The exact protocol has changed over time. Published versions have included carefully planned meals, a fixed sleep schedule, regular exercise, extensive supplementation and periodic laboratory testing. Some versions have also included cosmetic or dermatological procedures.
Blueprint is not simply a private diary. The company sells products such as nutritional powders, capsules, olive oil, omega-3 supplements, microbiome products and skincare-related items. The brand says its formulations draw on population studies and clinical-trial evidence. That claim about individual products is different from proving that the complete Blueprint regimen reverses aging.

Johnson’s lifestyle is also difficult to copy. Reports have commonly estimated the cost of his personal program at about $2 million a year, although that figure is not an independently audited expense report. The price reflects medical supervision, testing, staff, products and the time required to maintain the system—not just groceries and vitamins.
Does Bryan Johnson claim to be biologically 18?
Johnson has publicized biological-age results that he interprets as evidence that some aspects of his body are functioning younger than his chronological age. This has often been simplified in headlines into the claim that he is “biologically 18.”
That description needs qualification. Biological age is not one universally agreed measurement. Different tests examine different systems and can produce different results. A blood-based age estimate, for example, cannot establish that every organ, tissue and bodily process has become equivalent to that of an 18-year-old.
There is also no accepted biological-age test that proves a person has stopped aging or will live indefinitely. Johnson’s measurements may be interesting, but they are not the same as a clinical demonstration that Blueprint reverses human aging.
Did Bryan Johnson use his son’s blood?
In 2023, Johnson took part in an experiment involving plasma exchange between himself, his teenage son and his elderly father. The idea was linked to research interest in whether factors in younger blood might influence aging-related processes.
The popular description that Johnson “drank his son’s blood” is false and sensationalized. The procedure involved plasma—not drinking blood—and Johnson later said he saw no benefit from it.
The experiment also should not be confused with an approved anti-aging treatment. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has stated that young-donor plasma has not been approved for anti-aging, memory loss or general wellness uses, and that it is not aware of evidence showing those benefits. Plasma transfusions can be medically appropriate for specific conditions, but that is a different use from receiving young plasma in an attempt to become younger.
What is the Netflix documentary about?
Don’t Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever follows Johnson’s effort to extend his life through money, technology and strict personal discipline. The film looks at his daily routine, his relationship with his family and the philosophy behind his attempt to treat mortality as an engineering problem.

The documentary presents Johnson as both an unusually committed experimenter and a wealthy person able to pursue an option unavailable to most people. That contrast matters. His program depends on resources that ordinary viewers cannot reproduce, including frequent testing, professional support and the ability to devote large parts of the day to health management.
The film is a portrait of Johnson and his project, not a clinical trial. Watching it does not establish that Blueprint works, and the documentary should not be treated as medical evidence for supplements, plasma procedures or extreme diets.
Has Bryan Johnson actually reversed aging?
No. Johnson has not demonstrated that he has reversed the underlying human aging process, and no one has demonstrated that his regimen produces immortality.
There is a meaningful difference between improving measurable health markers and reversing aging. Better cardiovascular fitness, improved blood pressure, lower levels of some risk markers or a younger result on one biological-age test could all be valuable. None, by itself, proves that a person’s entire body has become younger or that lifespan will increase.

It can show what happened to one individual under a complex and changing routine, but it cannot separate the effect of each food, supplement, treatment or lifestyle change.

In 2026, Johnson publicly discussed being diagnosed with autoimmune gastritis, a condition in which the immune system attacks acid-producing cells in the stomach. The disease can interfere with the absorption of iron and vitamin B12 and may develop without obvious symptoms for some time.
Johnson described the diagnosis in dramatic terms, but it should not be used to draw a simple conclusion about Blueprint. The diagnosis does not prove that his program caused the condition, and it does not prove that the program is useless. It does show a basic limitation of intensive self-tracking: extensive monitoring cannot guarantee that a person will avoid chronic disease or immediately identify every problem.
Experts have also cautioned against assuming that his childhood diet caused the condition. Autoimmune gastritis is associated with genetic and autoimmune factors, including other autoimmune diseases. One person’s theory about the cause of an illness is not a substitute for medical evidence.

How much does Johnson’s longevity program cost?
Reports have estimated that Johnson spends around $2 million annually on his personal health regimen. The precise number depends on what is counted and has not been independently audited.
In 2026, Johnson also announced Immortals, a limited longevity service intended to give a small number of clients access to managed versions of his protocols. Reporting about the proposed program put the cost at as much as $1 million for three participants. The offering illustrates how Johnson’s project has expanded from a personal experiment into a commercial health and wellness enterprise.
That price is important context when evaluating claims about results. A person following Blueprint products without the same medical team, testing schedule, budget and time commitment would not necessarily be following the same intervention Johnson is describing.
What is the fairest description of Bryan Johnson?
The most accurate description is that Bryan Johnson is a wealthy technology entrepreneur who sold Braintree to PayPal and now funds, follows and markets an intensive longevity program called Blueprint.
He is serious about extending healthy life, and his willingness to publish data has made him a prominent figure in the longevity movement. But his public measurements remain personal evidence, not proof of immortality. His story is best understood as a combination of technology investment, self-experimentation, branding and a philosophical refusal to accept aging as inevitable—not as a solved medical breakthrough.

The Bottom Line
Bryan Johnson made his fortune by selling Braintree to PayPal, then redirected much of his wealth into technology, brain research and longevity. His Blueprint program may generate useful personal health data, but it has not proved that aging can be reversed or that humans can live forever. Don’t Die is a documentary about an ambitious and highly unusual experiment—not evidence that immortality has been achieved.
