The small border town of Łęknica in Poland is an anomaly in the face of Europe’s rampant inflation. The prices at local stalls and shops are kept low to attract German customers who cross the border searching for bargains. But while this is good news for bargain hunters, it has an unfortunate effect on locals who have to make a living by selling their goods.

Inflation has made everyday items increasingly more expensive across Europe, but in Łęknica, locals are unable to raise their prices to match the rising costs of living due to competition from German customers. This means that instead of earning a living wage and providing for themselves and their families, they are forced to settle for less or risk losing business altogether. As such, many Poles have been left feeling demoralized, frustrated and helpless as they struggle to make ends meet.

The story of Łęknica is a stark reminder of how economic forces can profoundly shape people’s lives – even in a small border town like this one. But it also serves as an inspiring example of resilience and determination in the face of adversity. The courage and resourcefulness with which locals have adapted to their situation makes them a source of hope for other European communities facing similar challenges.

The town’s story is now being documented in the documentary film “Łęknica: A Polish Tale” directed by Marcin Koszałka. It follows several inhabitants affected by the situation as they confront difficult choices and strive for change amidst growing uncertainty about their future. The film offers unique insight into a truly remarkable community whose tale deserves to be heard far and wide – so we encourage you all to watch it!
