Venezuela: Humanitarian crisis and the fight for power

Venezuela is in turmoil as a result of a long-lasting economic, political, and humanitarian crisis. For years, investigative journalist César Batiz has worked to uncover corruption and implicate those in power in Venezuela – from government officials to members of the military. As the country’s crisis has grown, Batiz has come to be seen as a crucial voice in the effort to hold those in power accountable.

In the new documentary film from Tuki Jencquel, “The Fight for Venezuela”, viewers can follow Batiz on a perilous journey across the border into Colombia, transporting humanitarian aid into Venezuela. The documentary captures a pivotal moment in the struggle for control of Venezuela, as the opposition hopes to turn the tide against President Nicolás Maduro. Against a backdrop of hyperinflation, food and medicine shortages, and frequent power outages, Batiz’s work shows how corruption has fueled the country’s current crisis. With stunning footage and gripping interviews, “The Fight for Venezuela” offers an inside look at the ongoing crisis and the people fighting to make a difference.
