No-Go Zones – World’s Toughest Places | Tepito, Mexico

Tepito, located in the heart of Mexico City, is considered to be one of the most hazardous black markets globally. While it may look like any other market, crime and violence loom in every alleyway. The “La Union” gang rules over this area and is known for dealing with drugs, weapons, and assassinations – anything that money can buy. With the police force unable to control or contain the situation, people caught up in the gang’s crossfire risk their lives every day.

According to estimates, around eight kilos of cocaine and half a ton of marijuana are sold here every weekend. Hitmen are paid up to fourteen thousand euros to carry out killings, and threats of violence are an everyday occurrence.

Mexican authorities have only one solution to stop this – a special unit, consisting of four hundred highly-trained men, who are ready to take down the gang members around the clock. However, even with their efforts, innocent people and bystanders are often caught in the middle.

The truth about Tepito is far from what meets the eye. While residents call it the “wild neighborhood,” it is something much darker.

It serves as a stark reminder that such places exist and that danger lurks in unexpected corners of the world. The documentary showcases the real-life struggle between the authorities and the “La Union” gang.
