Michelin Stars The Madness of Perfection

Jun 26, 2022 | Food/Drink, Videos

Call it the Michelin madness. Restaurant owners all around the world would kill to get just one Michelin Star. Some even get three Michelin Stars.

What are Michelin stars? They are a rating system by the Michelin Guide, designed to grade restaurants on their quality. The guide was introduced in 1900, but it wasn’t until 1926 that the first Michelin star was introduced. The second and the third star were introduced in 1933.

A restaurant with one star is considered “very good restaurant”, two stars mean that “the cooking is excellent and worth a detour”, while three stars mean “exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey”. The listing is updated once a year.

What is interesting is that even executives at Michelin do not know the inspectors. Few people have ever met an inspector. They are advised not to disclose their line of work, just so they can keep the anonymity. That being said, what restaurant owners and chefs are ready to do just so they can get a star is preposterous. Check how this documentary explores the strive for perfection called Michelin Star.
