What is it really like to be a young woman in India? Citizen journalist Meera Vijayann speaks on some of the problems and challenges women face in India.
During her TED talk, she starts with a personal story of sexual violence. She was just seven years old, and she had a private tutor, responsible for her education. But he took advantage of the situation, and molested her.
Personal stories of sexual violence are difficult to listen, but that is exactly the point according to Vijayann. Her message for women all around the world is to speak out on tough, taboo topics. Only by doing that, we can spark a change in the world we live in.

Vijayann is one of the most vocal women speaking on gender violence, and she invites everyone to contribute to the topic. It takes a lot of mental strength to reminisce the terrible memories we have all endured, but at the end, that is what powerful and amazing women do.
