Learning German: integration by language

Jaime Beck, a German teacher from Colombia, instructs refugees in Germany in not only the intricacies of the German language but also helps them integrate into German society. In a one-of-a-kind approach, Jaime provides his students not with dry vocabulary and grammar rules but rather, “street German,” which exposes the learners to the informal language used in everyday conversations. But Jaime’s lessons don’t end there.

He takes his students on cultural tours, where they explore venues like the opera and delve into the country’s rich history. As his students’ skill in German language grows, Jaime’s own imperfections in the language do not hinder his popularity. Students say when he speaks, it sounds like a song. In a documentary by Oxana Evdokimova, delve into this unique approach by Jaime Beck and how it is helping refugees integrate into German society.
