From a Nazi childhood to living with a Syrian refugee

Syrian refugee Amer shares a Berlin apartment with 94-year-old Eva. As a girl, Eva was a member of the Hitler Youth. She now lives opposite a German pub, where refugees are viewed with suspicion. Will the encounter with Amer shift their views?

But there’s more to the story. Amer and Eva’s unlikely friendship is the subject of an upcoming documentary that explores the intersection of history, culture, and humanity. Titled “Across the Road: One Apartment, Two Worlds,” this film takes an intimate look at the profound impact of unlikely connections. As we witness the bond between Amer and Eva deepen, we’re forced to confront our own prejudices and preconceptions, and to question what it means to truly connect. Through the lens of this unique relationship, “Across the Road” illuminates the power of empathy, compassion, and understanding, and shows us that even the most unlikely pairs can find common ground.
