What is Finn’s Law | Award Winning Short Documentary

Dec 17, 2022 | Crime, Lifestyle, Videos

Finn’s Law is a piece of legislation in the United Kingdom that provides greater protection to service animals, such as police dogs and horses.
The law is named after a police dog named Finn, who was stabbed while on duty in 2016. Finn’s handler, PC Dave Wardell, fought for the law after Finn was injured but the assailant was only charged with criminal damage, rather than a more serious offense.
The law, officially known as the Animal Welfare (Service Animals) Act 2019, came into force on June 8, 2019. It makes it an offense to harm a service animal while it is on duty, and the penalty can be up to five years in prison.
The law also recognizes the vital role that service animals play in society and provides them with greater protection under the law.
