In the heart of Miami County Jail is a place where only the most dangerous and volatile criminals are housed – the fifth and sixth floor of ‘Main Jail’. In this two-part series, Louis Theroux spends time in this jail to uncover a strange and violent culture that has been born out of the inmates’ incarceration.
The majority of these men spend their entire day in small cages without any real contact with other inmates or guards. This isolation has caused them to develop a code similar to gladiators – they fight each other over food, status, or simply to pass the time while confined. The level of violence is such that trips to the infirmary have become commonplace, yet the guards remain powerless to stop it.
