Billion Dollar Base: Army Base in Afghanistan

The British Army base in Afghanistan, Camp Bastion, housed the UK and US military operations for eight years. After being the powerhouse for one of the longest wars in British history, it is time to close it down.

The documentary Billion Dollar Base: Dismantling Camp Bastion provides an exclusive look at the men and women who packed up the giant jigsaw puzzle that was the base. They dismantled it bolt by bolt and sent it all back to the UK. The documentary tells the story of the end of an era, when a town, bigger than many in Britain, was taken down, piece by piece.

The base’s impressive infrastructure included an airport, a hospital, and fast food restaurants. But all of this must be handed over to the Afghans. And with defenses and manpower depleting, the team had to work against time, in the face of a relentless threat from the Taliban.

This documentary captures the essence of the base and its significance in the lives of those stationed there, those who fought on its grounds, and those who worked to dismantle it. It is a story of sacrifice, bravery, and the end of an era.

We encourage you to watch Billion Dollar Base: Dismantling Camp Bastion. It is an incredible journey, and it will change the way you see the sacrifices made during a war and the impact it has on the lives of those involved.
