Andy Goldsworthy’s Rivers and Tides

Sep 18, 2022 | Art, Videos

In ‘Andy Goldsworthy’s Rivers and Tides’, documentarian Thomas Riedelsheimer shows how Andy Goldsworthy brings alive art in the form of structures and scenes art in natural settings using natural materials such as driftwood, ice, mud, leaves, and stones.

The film shows how difficult this task really is as we see how a complex structure of interconnected sticks collapse while Goldsworthy is still working on it and several creations fall apart, melt, or drift away due to exposure to the elements, with some exceptions, such as a winding stone wall that was built by him in Mountainville, NY.

Most of the film has been shot in Goldsworthy’s home in Penport, Scotland, and in a French museum and the film also includes responses by Goldsworthy to Thomas’ off-screen questions.
