9/11: The forgotten heroes of Ground Zero

Twenty years after the tragedy of 9/11, the world will finally witness the untold stories of those who risked their lives to clear the remains of the World Trade Centre. Among them were undocumented immigrants who the world has failed to acknowledge. In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks, these workers cleared hazardous waste, searched for buried victims, and hauled away rubble. Despite their selfless dedication, most of them have not received the recognition they deserve.

Meet Jorge Roldan – an unsung hero of 9/11. Jorge, an undocumented immigrant, was at Ground Zero, where he, among thousands of workers, performed one of the most dangerous jobs with little to no safety measures, including the adequate protective gear. Jorge’s experiences at Ground Zero have left him with fatal health conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder. Now, over two decades later, he is desperately trying to secure compensation for thousands like him who worked at the site of the attack but have yet to receive any support.
