The Armenian people are the world’s oldest Christian nation, but few people know much about their history. Over a hundred years ago on April 24, 1915, the Ottoman Empire initiated a mass genocide of Armenians living within its borders. In one of the most brutal atrocities in human history, more than 1 million Armenians were systematically massacred over the course of eight years. Despite the overwhelming evidence that this genocide took place, Turkish officials have denied its occurrence and continue to do so today.
This is why films like Atom Egoyan’s documentary “Ararat” are so important—they bring attention to the plight of the Armenian people and tell their story to audiences across the world. The film follows a group of characters as they uncover clues about their past and explore what life was like for Armenians before and during the genocide. It is an enlightening look at how a tragedy can shape a culture and its people for generations after it occurred.
The Armenian Genocide is a complex topic that has been overlooked for too long, but documentaries like “Ararat” shed light on this horrific event in our history. By watching this film, viewers gain perspective into what happened to the Armenian people during this time and become aware of how we can learn from our past mistakes in order to prevent similar tragedies from happening again in our lifetime. So if you’re looking for an informative and thought-provoking film about one of humanity’s darkest moments, then check out “Ararat” today!
