Recently, a remarkable story has come to light, one that speaks to the power of the human spirit. On a trip to visit family in Seoul, South Korea in April, I was approached by two North Korean defectors who had obtained an extremely rare and historically important DVD. After hearing their story and understanding their request, I agreed to translate the documentary and post it online for all to see.
The DVD contained footage from inside North Korea, including interviews with individuals who risked their safety in order to tell stories of the oppression they faced. It is a heartbreaking account of life inside one of the most isolated countries on earth. The DVD was smuggled out of North Korea by these courageous defectors who now hope that getting this film out can raise awareness about the human rights abuses occurring there.
I truly believe everyone should watch this powerful documentary as it highlights how even in moments of darkness or despair, hope can still exist and people can fight back against injustice. This is especially true when those individuals receive support from like-minded people outside of their country’s walls. In order to protect both them and myself during our transaction, we all agreed on keeping our identities anonymous.
This thought-provoking film is not only informative but also incredibly moving. It demonstrates how even through difficult times, we must strive for justice and show solidarity with those who face constant oppression or suffering due to oppressive regimes such as North Korea’s. It is a reminder that freedom and respect for others are values worth fighting for no matter where you are located geographically or politically.
So please take some time today to watch this important documentary from North Korea and show your support for those trying to make change happen on the world stage – whether that’s through activism or simply sharing a powerful story with others – so that we may all be reminded of what really matters in life: freedom and justice for us all!
