He had been transferred there from California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. This is the latest reported location, not an independently verified custody update for October 2026.
Why Tory Lanez is in prison
Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, was convicted in December 2022 of three felonies connected to the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He received a 10-year prison sentence in 2023. Associated Press reporting on the appeal and AP’s April 2026 report describe the conviction and sentence.

At trial, Megan testified that Lanez fired at her feet after the group left a gathering in the Hollywood Hills. AP reported that bullet fragments were surgically removed from both of her feet. Her account is testimony; the convictions are the jury’s verdict.
What happened to him in prison
On May 12, 2025, Lanez was attacked at California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi and hospitalized. AP’s initial report said a message on his Instagram account described him as having been stabbed 14 times and said both lungs had collapsed. That figure was attributed to the social-media message, not independently established as a court finding. AP’s May 2025 report covered the attack.

A later federal lawsuit makes a different injury-count allegation. AP reported that the complaint says Lanez was stabbed 16 times by inmate Santino Casio, suffered a collapsed lung and was airlifted to a hospital. The 16-stab-wound figure is an allegation in the lawsuit, not a judicial finding; it should not be merged with the 14-count attributed to Lanez’s earlier Instagram message. AP’s April 2026 report describes the complaint and transfer.
His conviction was affirmed on appeal
On November 12, 2025, California’s Second District Court of Appeal affirmed Lanez’s conviction. AP reported that the court rejected defense challenges to several trial rulings, including the use of a prior interview with witness Kelsie Harris, an Instagram comment, testimony about Megan’s feelings and a photograph of Lanez. Justice Anne H. Egerton wrote, “Once on the stand, to say Harris was a reluctant witness is an understatement.”

The AP report said Lanez could petition the California Supreme Court. The reviewed reporting does not establish whether a later petition or federal proceeding changed the case’s status, so it would be inaccurate to say that every avenue of appeal has been exhausted. Lanez filed a federal lawsuit on April 14, 2026, seeking $100 million from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, a warden and guards. The complaint alleges prison officials should not have housed him with Casio and that their response to the attack was inadequate. CDCR spokesperson Ike Dodson told AP that the department does not comment on pending litigation.

These are claims in a civil case, not findings that officials were liable. The reviewed reporting does not establish the lawsuit’s later procedural status or outcome. AP reported on the filing; Pitchfork also reviewed the lawsuit documents and reported allegations of failure to protect and neglect. Pitchfork reported that Lanez maintained his innocence. Megan’s attorney, Alex Spiro, said, “The jury got it right. I am thankful there is justice for Meg.”
