Collider published a roundup called “10 Amazing Movies With Under 15k Views on Letterboxd” on March 10, 2025, written by Robert Lee III. This guide does not reproduce that list. A full copy of the article, with its ten film titles and the view counts attached to them, was not available when this guide was prepared, so any names offered here would be guesses. What follows explains what a “under 15k views” threshold can and cannot mean on Letterboxd, and gives you a method to build your own underseen shortlist that you can check and date yourself.

What the Collider roundup is, and what it is not

The Collider piece is listed on the publication’s Letterboxd tag page with the descriptive line “The hidden gems to end all hidden gems.” That line is promotional copy, not a finding or a quotation from an expert. Treat the title as the best available statement of the article’s premise: ten films that are widely rated but rarely watched on the platform. If you want the actual picks, read the original article on Collider directly, and check each film’s Letterboxd page yourself, because the numbers in any roundup are a snapshot from the day it was written.

What “views” means on Letterboxd

Letterboxd describes itself as a social network for film discussion and discovery, where members keep a diary, rate and review films, maintain a watchlist, and create lists. Its help documentation lists those features, but the phrase “views” is not one of the labels this guide could confirm as a formal, defined metric.

Letterboxd’s own “Official Lists” explanation describes its underseen lists in terms of a ratings threshold. That is a different measure from a raw count of how many members have watched a film. A film can sit on an underseen list because of how few members have rated it, not because a specific view total falls below a number. So when a headline says “under 15k views,” read it as the writer’s shorthand for an obscurity cutoff, and ask which Letterboxd figure, on which page, produced it.

The practical rule is simple: do not silently convert the wording. If a list says “views,” record what the film page actually displays, then describe that figure in your own notes using the same term the page uses.

How to build your own underseen shortlist

  1. Start with Letterboxd’s underseen lists. Open the Official Lists published on Letterboxd and note the threshold each underseen list uses. These lists are maintained by the platform, so their criteria are the most stable starting point.
  2. Cross-check each candidate on its film page. Open the film’s own Letterboxd page and record the exact count or rating figure displayed there, along with the date you checked it.
  3. Record the release year, country and language, and genre. Obscurity often correlates with a film’s origin or mode, so these fields help you see patterns across a list rather than judging each title in isolation.
  4. Note how many reviews the film has. A film with a low count but a deep set of reviews is more informative than one with a low count and a handful of ratings.
  5. Check where you can actually watch it. Obscure does not mean unavailable, and it does not mean available in your country. Letterboxd’s paid membership tiers add filters for availability on a member’s own streaming services, which is useful if you already subscribe to a service.
  6. Set a capture date and a cutoff. Write down the date you checked, and the exact threshold you used. Re-check before you publish or share the list, because counts move.

What each candidate should be checked against

Use the same fields for every title so that shortlists can be compared fairly:

  • Title and release year. Confirm both on the film’s page, since remakes and festival-only releases can share titles.
  • Country and language. Note the original language, which affects how many subtitled copies are likely to exist.
  • Genre or mode. Record whether the film is fiction, documentary, experimental, or an animated feature, because these categories circulate differently.
  • Displayed count and capture date. Store the exact figure as shown on the page, with the date you saw it.
  • Rating context and review volume. Note the average rating alongside how many members rated and reviewed it.
  • Regional availability. Record the services or formats where the film can be watched in your region, and the date you checked.

Obscurity is not the same as quality

A low count tells you that few members have logged a film. It does not tell you that the film is good, bad, or overlooked for a reason. Use the count to find candidates, then use reviews, ratings and your own taste to decide. Films that few people have watched are often hard to find on any platform, so the best shortlists pair a low count with a reasonable number of thoughtful reviews, which signals that the people who did watch the film engaged with it.

Why any published count goes stale

Every view figure in an article is a snapshot. A count written in March 2025 describes the platform on that date, and it may not match what a film page shows today. For that reason, any list you publish or share should state the date it was checked and the cutoff it used. A list that says “under 15k” without a date is already out of date by the time a reader sees it.
