The headline’s film identification is plausible, but its injury claim is not supported by any source tied to that movie. The Netflix departure date it cites is also unconfirmed, because the excerpt gives no year and no country.
What the headline claims, and what checks out
The headline makes five separate claims. They do not carry the same weight, so each one needs its own verdict.

| Claim in the headline | Status | What the evidence shows |
|---|---|---|
| The film is Plane (2023) | Likely, not fully confirmed | A search-result excerpt identifies the film and describes it as an action thriller. |
| Butler was seriously injured while filming it | Not established | Butler’s reported injury accounts in the interview material concern other films, not Plane. |
| Worldwide gross of about $75 million | Reported, not independently verified | Figure given in an excerpt reproducing a Collider article. The publication year of that article is not established. |
| Budget of $25 million | Reported, not independently verified | Same excerpt and same limits as the gross figure. No production-accounting source was located. |
| The film is leaving Netflix on December 12 | Unconfirmed | The excerpt gives neither a year nor a country, and its timing wording does not match the current date (see below). |
The two money figures are secondary reports. They are useful as context for how the film was covered, but they should be cited as reported figures rather than audited numbers.
Where the injury confusion comes from
Butler has discussed physically demanding shoots and dangerous moments in interviews, which makes it easy for a headline to attach one of those stories to a current release. The interview material that was checked links injury accounts to two other films.

#1 Best Overall
- A pilot finds himself caught in a war zone after he's forced to land his commercial aircraft during a terrible storm.
Olympus Has Fallen
Reported on-set injuries are associated with this film in the interview material. They are not described as occurring on Plane, and the set, schedule and production are different.
Chasing Mavericks
The interview material describes a near-drowning while Butler was making this film. A near-drowning is a separate incident from the injury the headline describes, and it also took place on a different production.

No quote from a named speaker about an injury on Plane was found. Until a statement from Butler, the production, or a reliable report about Plane itself turns up, the injury claim should be treated as unverified.
Why the Netflix claim cannot be taken at face value
The Netflix departure claim has three problems, and each one matters on its own.
Rank #3
- A pilot finds himself caught in a war zone after he's forced to land his commercial aircraft during a terrible storm.
- No year. The excerpt says December 12 but does not say which year. Plane was released in 2023, so a removal date in that year would be long past.
- No territory. Netflix’s catalog varies by country. A removal in one market says nothing about availability in another, and the excerpt does not name a market.
- Conflicting timing. The excerpt says the film leaves “next month.” Read against the current date of October 8, 2026, “next month” would mean November, which does not match December 12. The excerpt therefore cannot be dated from its own wording.
Taken together, these points mean the excerpt cannot be used as a current availability notice.
How to check the Netflix status yourself
If you want to know whether Plane is still on Netflix where you live, check the live catalog rather than relying on an article’s date.
Rank #4
- Confirm the country on your Netflix account, since the catalog is set by region.
- Search for Plane in that country’s catalog and note whether it appears and whether it is marked with a removal date.
- Repeat the search in a second country if you are unsure which catalog a reader is seeing.
- Treat any removal date as unconfirmed unless it appears on Netflix’s own pages or in an official notice for your region.
If the title does not appear in your country’s catalog, that is the most reliable answer available. A reported date from a secondary source is not a substitute.

Celebrity injury stories are often reshaped from older interviews. A short checklist can catch most of these problems before you share one.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBest Value
- The adventures of time-traveling agent, Valerian, and his sidekick, Laureline.
- Does the story name the specific film in which the injury happened, and does the interview say so?
- Is the source a direct quote, a transcript, or a secondhand summary?
- Is the article dated, and does its date match the film’s release and any current availability claim?
- Does a reputable outlet report the same incident, with the same film attached?
Applied to this headline, the first and last questions fail, which is why the injury claim remains unverified.
What can be said with confidence is narrower than the headline. Plane is the likely film, Butler has described injuries and a near-drowning on other productions, and the Netflix date is unconfirmed. Any claim beyond that needs a source that is specific to Plane and dated.
