Its stated eligibility rules include songs released in 2025 and songs that peaked on Billboard charts that year, while excluding songs already named on the staff’s 2024 favorite-songs list. The accessible syndicated copy identifies the feature but does not show its 100 ranked entries or song-by-song explanations, so a complete, verified ranking cannot be reproduced here.
What Billboard’s 2025 best-songs feature is
The feature, published December 11, 2025, is titled “The 100 Best Songs of 2025: Staff Picks.” Its selections are made by Billboard staff; it is distinct from a chart that orders songs by measured audience activity. The accessible syndicated copy is credited to James Dinh and describes the selection criteria, but not the complete list or its individual rationales. Read the accessible syndicated feature.
Which songs were eligible
Billboard’s introductory copy says the staff considered both songs initially released during 2025 and songs that peaked on Billboard charts during 2025. A song was ineligible if it had already appeared on the staff’s 2024 favorite-songs list. Those rules define the pool, but they do not establish the relative order of songs or explain why any particular track was selected. Billboard’s feature criteria.
Why the Hot 100 is not the staff ranking
The Billboard Hot 100 is a separate performance chart. Billboard Canada’s page for the week of December 13, 2025 describes its Hot 100 as ranking popular current songs across genres using streaming activity, radio-airplay audience impressions and sales, with measures tracked or compiled by Luminate. In that dated chart snapshot, HUNTR/X’s “Golden” was No. 5 and Taylor Swift’s “The Fate Of Ophelia” was No. 6. Those are Hot 100 positions, not placements in the staff’s best-songs feature. See the December 13, 2025 Hot 100 page.

What can—and cannot—be verified from the available copy
The available text confirms the feature’s name, publication date, eligibility framing and editorial character. It does not provide the 100 entries, their order, or the staff’s explanations for individual choices. Reconstructing the list from chart data would conflate two different kinds of ranking, so no song order should be inferred from Hot 100 positions. Readers looking for the complete list should consult the full Billboard feature if it is available to them.
