The available records do not show Madonna and Shakira jointly setting a YouTube record. The phrase appears to mix up separate events: a Madonna internet concert in 2000, a Shakira and Bizarrap YouTube record in 2023, and Shakira’s 2026 World Cup opening-match performance. FIFA also announced Madonna and Shakira as co-headliners for the 2026 World Cup final halftime show, but that announcement did not claim a joint YouTube record.
Did Madonna and Shakira set a YouTube record together?
No verified source identified for this claim documents Madonna and Shakira jointly setting a YouTube record. The figures associated with their names belong to different performances, works, platforms, and record categories. In particular, FIFA’s announcement of the 2026 World Cup final halftime show names both artists but does not say they set a record.
What the separate records actually describe
| Artist or performers | Event or work | Figure and metric | Record category or source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Madonna | November 2000 internet concert at Brixton Academy | 11 million viewers overall: 9 million live and 2 million on-demand | Guinness World Records lists it as the largest internet pop concert; it is not described as a YouTube record. Guinness World Records |
| Shakira and Bizarrap | “Music Sessions, Vol. 53” (2023) | 63 million views in 24 hours | Guinness World Records identifies it as the most-viewed Latin track on YouTube in 24 hours. Madonna is not identified as a collaborator in that record story. Guinness World Records |
| Shakira and Burna Boy | “Dai Dai” performance at the 2026 World Cup opening match | 56 million YouTube views | Figure reported by FIFA for the opening-match performance, not the final halftime show. FIFA |
These numbers measure different things: viewers of an internet concert, views of a music video within 24 hours, and YouTube views of a tournament performance. They should not be combined into one Madonna–Shakira record.
What FIFA announced about the 2026 World Cup final
In a May 14, 2026 announcement, FIFA and Global Citizen said Madonna, Shakira, and BTS would co-headline the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Halftime Show on Sunday, July 19, at New York New Jersey Stadium. FIFA named Chris Martin as curator. The announcement describes the lineup and event; it does not report a YouTube record. Read FIFA’s announcement.

That final-show announcement is distinct from FIFA’s report of 56 million YouTube views for Shakira and Burna Boy performing “Dai Dai” at the opening match. The opening-match figure does not establish a record by Madonna and Shakira, or a record for the final halftime show.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the headline claim is easy to misread
Search results can place several real stories beside one another: Madonna’s 2000 internet-concert audience, Shakira and Bizarrap’s 2023 YouTube achievement, and news of Shakira’s 2026 World Cup performance. A related headline, “Shakira’s Latest Single Breaks YouTube Record,” concerns Shakira and Bizarrap’s 2023 release, not a Madonna–Shakira collaboration. Sports Illustrated.
The distinction matters because “viewers” and “views” are not interchangeable, and a record for an internet pop concert is not automatically a YouTube record. A record claim also needs a defined category, work or event, and date.
