Fern and Neel become separated from Wim and KB. When KB’s augments fail further, she tells Wim what she needs. He helps her, and reassures her that he and Neel will remain her friends. The moment turns the immediate problem into a test of trust: KB has to let someone help, while Wim has to respond to what she actually needs.
Fern and Neel reach the Onyx Cinder and find it being moved toward a trash compactor. When the four children reunite, Fern apologizes for not listening. KB, in turn, acknowledges that she had not been honest with Fern about her limitations. They cooperate to escape the compactor aboard the ship, using its emergency hull-demolition control to free it.

Why is the episode called “Zero Friends Again”?
The title points to the fracture between Fern and KB, rather than suggesting the children have truly stopped caring about one another. Fern’s leadership becomes a problem when she presses ahead without understanding KB’s condition; KB’s silence about her limits also keeps Fern from seeing what support is needed. Their reconciliation comes through both of them owning a part in the misunderstanding.
The friendship theme is not separate from the action. Wim’s practical help gives KB room to explain herself, and Fern and KB’s candid exchange makes it possible for the group to work together when the ship is in danger. The children escape because they begin treating one another’s needs as part of the problem to solve.

What happens to Jod?
Jod’s story continues apart from the children’s escape. After separating from them, he tries to survive among the pirates by appealing to the crew. He invokes the legendary destination At Attin in a promise intended to buy himself time. This thread keeps Jod’s immediate predicament in view, while the episode’s emotional focus stays with the children and their strained friendship.
