A credible ranking of ten controversial WWE wrestlers cannot be made from the documented cases available here: they support three wrestler entries, not ten comparable, well-sourced profiles. Rather than fill the list with unsupported names, this ranking weighs the seriousness of established conduct, the evidence and legal status, the scale of public scrutiny, and the effect on a wrestler’s legacy or WWE’s presentation. The order is editorial, not an authoritative consensus.
1. Chris Benoit: the gravest established crime
In 2007, Chris Benoit killed his wife and son and then died by suicide, according to the Associated Press. The deaths are the most serious established conduct among the three wrestler cases ranked here, making Benoit first under the criteria above.
The case also became part of wider discussion about brain injury in wrestling and how to handle Benoit’s in-ring legacy. Those debates do not establish that CTE, or any other single factor, caused the murders. The distinction matters: a proposed explanation is not a proven cause, and it does not change what the AP reports Benoit did.
2. Hulk Hogan: racist remarks and a lasting legacy dispute
The Associated Press reports that racist remarks Hogan made in a 2007 recording became public in connection with his legal case against Gawker. Hogan apologized, and WWE removed him after the controversy. The remarks and the company’s response drew sustained attention to how his legacy should be understood.

Hogan’s case ranks below Benoit’s because the documented conduct is different in nature and severity; the ranking does not treat racist remarks as equivalent to murder. It ranks above Snuka’s case because the AP describes the remarks, apology, and WWE response, while the legal status established in the cited Snuka retrospective is an indictment, not a conviction.
3. Jimmy Snuka: a serious case with a distinct legal status
A New Yorker retrospective says police questioned Snuka in 1983 concerning the death of Nancy Argentino, and that a grand jury indicted him for third-degree murder in 2015. The passage establishes those procedural events; it does not establish a conviction.

That distinction affects the ranking. The allegation is grave, but an indictment is not proof of guilt, so it cannot be presented as an adjudicated finding or treated as equivalent to Benoit’s established actions. Wrestling podcast host Kazeem Famuyide, quoted by the AP, put the broader historical challenge this way: “You cannot tell the history of America without all these issues, just like you cannot tell the history of the WWE without these issues.”
Why Vince McMahon is not ranked as a wrestler
Vince McMahon is an important WWE figure, but the cited steroid case concerns his role as an executive, not a wrestler’s personal controversy. The National’s 2022 retrospective reports that a jury acquitted McMahon in 1994 of charges that he conspired to distribute steroids to wrestlers under his employment. An acquittal is not a conviction, and this corporate case should not be used to pad a list of wrestlers.

What this ranking can—and cannot—claim
These cases are not interchangeable: one concerns established murders and suicide, one documented racist remarks and a company response, and one a police inquiry followed by an indictment. The ranking reflects seriousness, evidentiary and procedural status, public scrutiny, and legacy impact; it is not a claim that the cases share the same facts or legal outcome. The material cited here does not support naming seven more wrestlers or placing them in a comparable order, so a ten-person ranking would imply evidence this account does not have.
