Netflix’s 2025 limited series The Survivors was filmed mainly in Tasmania, with Eaglehawk Neck providing the most important real-world coastal setting. But Evelyn Bay is fictional, and the dangerous sea-cave interiors were built at Docklands Studios Melbourne rather than filmed inside natural caves.
Where was The Survivors filmed?
The series was filmed in Tasmania and Victoria, Australia. Netflix identifies Eaglehawk Neck, on Tasmania’s Tasman Peninsula, as a filming area for the show’s coastal world. Production designer Ben Morieson said the crew found the area near Port Arthur while scouting the coast southwest of Hobart. The nearby Pirates Bay landscape helped shape the look of fictional Evelyn Bay. Netflix Tudum and the Docklands Studios Melbourne case study describe that connection.

Some production also took place in Victoria. VicScreen’s announcement described principal photography in Tasmania alongside development, production and post-production in Victoria; later production accounts confirm the Melbourne studio work. VicScreen gives the production-geography context.
Is Evelyn Bay a real place?
No. Evelyn Bay is a fictional Tasmanian town created for the story, not a real place visitors can find on a map. Netflix Tudum quotes showrunner Tony Ayres: “Evelyn Bay doesn’t actually exist. Jane [Harper] made it up out of a number of different places.” The show combines real Tasmanian scenery and other filming locations to create the impression of one town.

Were the cave scenes filmed in real caves?
No. The production filmed coastal landscapes on location, but built the dangerous cave scenes at Docklands Studios Melbourne. Ayres told Ausfilm that filming in real sea caves was too dangerous, so the crew constructed studio caves inspired by Eaglehawk Neck. Ausfilm’s June 30, 2025 account describes the decision.
How the studio caves worked
The Docklands Studios case study says the production built three cave environments in above-ground steel tanks, each with a different tidal height. The permanent tank in Stage 6 was used for scuba-diving scenes. Studio construction gave the crew control over tides and filming time—conditions that would be difficult to manage in natural sea caves.

Can you visit the filming locations?
Some reported locations are named outdoor sites, towns or public-facing venues, but appearing in the series does not mean a place is open to visitors or safe to approach. Access rules and conditions can change, so check current local guidance before planning a visit. The studio cave sets are production environments, not natural attractions.
