Seth Rogen has said that The Studio‘s second season was written with Catherine O’Hara in it. The reporting available on this question does not confirm that she filmed or appears in Season 2. O’Hara died on January 30, 2026, and her intended role is now something the show has to address rather than something it can announce.
What Seth Rogen has said about her role
The clearest statement on O’Hara’s place in Season 2 comes from Rogen, the show’s co-creator and star. In an interview with The Times, reported by TheWrap on April 4, 2026, he described the season’s planning around her and the effect of her loss:
“We wrote it for her to be there. We had it all set and the shock waves permeate throughout the entire new season. It’s been difficult.”
In the same interview, Rogen addressed how the show would handle the loss on screen:

“If anything, we’re acknowledging the idea that we are a little anchorless. But, honestly, that is a part of life and what we all experience. And so while we try to not dwell too much on heavy themes in this show, they will be there in this second season. We are not ignoring it.”
TheWrap’s report also describes co-creator Evan Goldberg as finding it an unusually hard challenge to keep making the show while coping with her death. That point appears only in TheWrap’s paraphrase, not as a direct quotation from Goldberg.

Two things follow from these statements. The first is that the season was planned with O’Hara as part of its story. The second is that the creators have chosen to acknowledge her absence and not to write around it. Neither statement says what form her presence, or its absence, takes on screen.
Her role in Season 1
O’Hara played Patty Leigh in The Studio‘s first season. Apple’s official show page lists her in the Season 1 cast. TheWrap describes Leigh as a former studio head turned producer who serves as a mentor to Rogen’s character, Matt Remick. That mentor relationship is the context for why her planned presence in Season 2 matters to the show’s story.

What the 2025 renewal announcement establishes
Apple announced the renewal on May 6, 2025. The release named O’Hara among the ensemble cast at that time and named Rogen and Evan Goldberg as co-creators and executive producers. That announcement shows the casting context when the season was renewed. It was published more than eight months before her death, and it does not show that she filmed scenes for Season 2.
Her death and the posthumous award
The Associated Press reported that O’Hara died on January 30, 2026, at the age of 71. AP also reported that she posthumously won the Actor Award for a female actor in a comedy series for The Studio, at the 2026 ceremony. Rogen accepted the award on her behalf. The award recognizes her Season 1 performance; it is not evidence about Season 2 production.

What is still unconfirmed
The reporting reviewed for this article does not settle the following points:
- Whether O’Hara filmed or appears in Season 2. The creators say the season was written with her in it. No source confirms finished footage of her in the season.
- Whether the season includes archival material of her. No source reviewed states this either way.
- Current release and episode details. The sources reviewed do not confirm the Season 2 release schedule.
How to check the status of Season 2
- Open Apple’s official listing for The Studio on Apple TV. Apple’s own page is the authoritative source for the season’s current release status and cast credits.
- Compare any claim about O’Hara’s on-screen role against that listing and against Rogen’s or AP’s reporting. A claim that goes beyond what those sources say should be treated as unverified.
- Watch for a stated acknowledgement of her death in the season itself. Rogen’s comments indicate the creators intend to address it, so the episodes are the place where that intention would show up.
Readers searching for confirmed information on whether O’Hara appears in Season 2 should treat the answer as not yet established. The documented facts are the planned role, the creators’ stated intention to acknowledge her absence, and the posthumous award.
