SVT published the official teaser for its Swedish drama series The Pirate Bay on SVT Play on August 15, 2024. That was the teaser’s release date, not the series premiere: the six-episode dramatization debuted on SVT Play on November 8, 2024.
When the teaser was released—and where it is now
SVT Play’s official listing, titled “Teaser: The Pirate Bay,” was published on August 15, 2024. The listing stated that the teaser would be available until December 31, 2024; it has since expired from SVT Play. SVT Play’s teaser listing records the original item and its availability dates.

The series followed later. Film Stockholm says the six-episode production premiered on SVT Play on November 8, 2024, and on SVT1 on November 11, 2024. Those dates refer to the show, not the teaser. Film Stockholm’s production page lists the premiere dates and production details.
What the teaser and series are about
SVT describes the series as a dramatization of The Pirate Bay’s rise, its founders, and the legal process surrounding the site in 2009. The teaser’s synopsis frames the central conflict as one between the founders’ file-sharing site and Hollywood. SVT names Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, and Peter Sunde as the founders followed by the series. The report identifies Willjam Lempling, Arwid Swedrup, and Simon Gregor Carlsson as the actors portraying Neij, Svartholm Warg, and Sunde, respectively.
A dramatization, not a documentary
Although the series draws on real people and events, it is scripted drama rather than documentary. Director Jens Sjögren told SVT that some intimate encounters had to be rendered through “qualified guesses” to shape an exciting story, while stressing that the team had worked carefully to gather information about how to portray the characters.

Actor Wiljam Lempling, who plays Fredrik Neij, described the series as avoiding a single side for viewers to support: “There is no clear side for the viewer to be on; all the characters have their own will, and in our series both sides are right.” The comment signals the production’s dramatic perspective, not a claim that every historical dispute has a single settled interpretation.
The Shrek 2 detail reported from the teaser
TorrentFreak reported on August 20, 2024 that the teaser included a response attributed to Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, also known as Anakata, to a DreamWorks letter concerning a torrent of Shrek 2. This is TorrentFreak’s description of what appeared in the teaser; its report reproduces the response, but that reproduction should not be treated as independent verification against the original letter. Production and distribution
Film Stockholm describes The Pirate Bay as a six-episode production by B-Reel Films with SVT and Film Stockholm, with international distribution by Dynamic Television. TorrentFreak reported in August 2024 that Dynamic Television held worldwide distribution rights, while noting at the time that no international deals had been announced. That dated report does not establish where the series can be watched outside Sweden today.
