In an April 2025 interview, Teddi Mellencamp said she felt “pretty good” while continuing immunotherapy—but she also described crying and feeling sad. Her update was candid about the emotional swings behind being called strong, and about the support she draws from her children and friends.
What Teddi Mellencamp said in her April 2025 update
Speaking with PEOPLE at An Unforgettable Evening Benefiting the Women’s Cancer Research Fund in Beverly Hills, Mellencamp described her feelings as mixed rather than consistently upbeat. “I’m feeling pretty good,” she said, before explaining that praise for her strength did not capture every moment: “You know, when people come up to me and they’re like, ‘You’re so strong, you did this.’ I’m like, half the time I’m strong, half the time I’m crying and sad,” she added.
She also credited the people around her: “What I’ve learned is that I have amazing kids. I have amazing friends and a support system that’s there for me, and I think that’s huge.” The interview’s central point was not that she had stopped feeling fear or sadness, but that both could coexist with moments of feeling good and with help from loved ones.
Where she was in treatment at the time
In the April 2025 interview, Mellencamp said she had completed radiation and was continuing immunotherapy. She hoped the next set of treatment would be her last. That was her expectation at the time, not confirmation that treatment had ended or that she was in remission.

PEOPLE reported that she was first diagnosed with stage two melanoma in 2022 and that, in February 2025, she had revealed the melanoma had spread to her lungs and brain. On April 23, 2025, Reality Tea reported Mellencamp’s own scan update: she said her tumors had significantly shrunk and hoped to complete two more immunotherapy sessions and become cancer-free. That report captured her hope, not a confirmed outcome.
What later reporting said about her status
A September 16, 2026 PEOPLE report said Mellencamp was still receiving immunotherapy. It also said she had been told in October 2025 that she had no detectable cancer, while she was not considered in remission. The same report noted that in January 2026 she reiterated there was no trace of cancer.

“No detectable cancer” and “not considered in remission” are distinct statements in that later report. They should not be collapsed into a claim that she was cancer-free or in remission, and they describe a later point in her care—not what she reported at the April 2025 event. PEOPLE also reported that she shared scars from 17 surgeries for invasive skin cancer, attributing that figure to her Instagram material.

In the September 2026 report, Mellencamp wrote, “Reminder: Get your skin checked.” It is an awareness message from her, not individualized medical advice. Her update does not establish a treatment recommendation or a personal screening plan for other people.
