TheWrap reported that the announcement said the series would premiere across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide; that figure describes the announcement and does not guarantee identical availability or timing in every territory. TheWrap’s renewal report also quoted co-creators Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie praising the audience response: “The fan response was truly special. There are still plenty of secrets buried on Beechwood Island and we can’t wait to keep digging them up.”
The creators’ praise does not establish that fan response caused the renewal. It does show the team’s stated enthusiasm for continuing the story.
What will Season 2 be about?
Season 2 is reported to adapt material from Family of Liars, E. Lockhart’s prequel to We Were Liars, while also continuing the present-day story. The book centers on the Sinclair sisters’ teenage years, with a summer in 1999 among the reported flashback material. TV Insider’s Season 2 coverage describes the source-material direction; the available details do not establish a full episode-by-episode plot.

For readers who want the literary background, Family of Liars is the relevant book to read alongside Lockhart’s original novel. E. Lockhart said in the renewal statement, as reported by TheWrap, that Season 2 would include material book readers were eager to see on screen as well as surprises.
When is We Were Liars Season 2’s release date?
There is no confirmed premiere date in the cited reporting. TV Insider said the season would arrive “at least 2027” and suggested summer 2027 based on the first season’s production-to-release timing. Treat summer 2027 as an estimate, not a Prime Video announcement.
