ABC renewed 9-1-1 for Season 9 before the Season 8 finale. TVLine reported the renewal on April 3, 2025, about six weeks before the Season 8 finale, which TVLine’s schedule lists for May 15, 2025. The question of whether the show would continue was settled before that finale aired, so nothing about the show is currently awaiting a decision. As of October 8, 2026, Season 9 has concluded, and ABC’s series page advertises a Season 10 premiere on October 15, 2026.
When the renewal was reported
TVLine reported on April 3, 2025 that ABC had renewed the drama for Season 9. That report is the only source located for the exact date. An official ABC or Disney renewal announcement for that day was not found, so the April 3 date should be read as the date of the trade report rather than a studio press release. The renewal itself is not in doubt: ABC’s series page now lists Season 9, and a further season has been advertised since.

Where the series stands on October 8, 2026
- Season 9 is complete. ABC Press identifies “Hearts and Flowers” as the Season 9 finale. Its synopsis says the crew of Station 118 gathers at the hospital after Athena is shot, while the mastermind behind a trafficking ring seeks to silence her and others.
- Season 10 is advertised. ABC’s series page lists a Season 10 premiere for October 15, 2026, one week after this article’s date.
- Streaming runs through Hulu. ABC’s series page says episodes stream on Hulu. Availability outside the United States and subscription terms are not covered here.
The headline’s wording suggests a decision still pending, but the sequence is historical: renewal first, finale second, and a further season now scheduled.
Reading the ratings figure
Disney General Entertainment Press reported that the May 1, 2025 episode “The Last Alarm” drew 9.18 million total viewers and a 1.75 rating among adults 18–49. Those numbers cover seven days of viewing across ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and digital platforms.

#1 Best Overall
- It is a seven-day, multiplatform total, not a single-night broadcast rating, so it should not be compared directly with overnight or live-plus-same-day figures.
- It describes audience size for one episode. It does not establish why ABC decided to renew the series.
What the official record does and does not settle
ABC’s series page describes the show as “A drama exploring the high-pressure experiences of first responders who are thrust into the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations.” That is an official description of the series, not a statement about the renewal.
This article does not quote ABC or Disney executives on the renewal, because no on-record comment from them appears in the coverage cited here. The two dates that rest on trade reporting, the April 2025 renewal and the May 15, 2025 finale, are the points where a future official ABC or Disney listing would add the most confirmation.
Rank #2
For readers checking the current status, the only question that remains open is when Season 10 actually premieres, and that is the date ABC has advertised.
