Spoilers for TRON: Ares and earlier TRON films. In the mid-credits scene, Julian Dillinger enters the wrecked Dillinger Grid and activates an identity disc. His digital suit takes on a shape that recalls Sark, the villainous program created by his grandfather, Ed Dillinger. It suggests Julian could carry on the family’s villainous legacy, but the film does not reveal that he literally is Sark or confirm a sequel. Separately, Ares looks at images of Quorra, leaving open a possible link to TRON: Legacy.
What happens in the TRON: Ares mid-credits scene?
After the main story, Julian enters the damaged Grid belonging to Dillinger Corp. He surveys the wreckage, finds an identity disc and activates it. As his digital suit forms, its silhouette resembles Sark’s familiar look from the original TRON.

The scene sets up an echo between Julian and his grandfather’s creation. The visual resemblance is a deliberate callback, but it is not a literal identity reveal: Julian is not established to be Sark, and the film does not explain exactly what he intends to do next.
Who is Sark?
Sark is a program written by Ed Dillinger, Julian’s grandfather, and the antagonist of the 1982 TRON. The mid-credits image connects Julian to that history: he is stepping into a digital world shaped by his family, and the suit suggests he may embrace or inherit its darker legacy. The Los Angeles Times’ ending explainer likewise describes the resemblance as a connection to Sark.

- Get ready for the electrifying action and adventure of “Tron: Ares.” When a highly sophisticated Program named Ares is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, it marks humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
Is Julian becoming Sark?
Not literally, based on what the film shows. Julian’s suit evokes Sark, making him a possible successor in the role of antagonist, but the scene leaves the nature of that connection unresolved. It may point to Julian adopting a Sark-like identity, continuing his grandfather’s ambitions, or simply signal a family legacy. None of those possibilities is confirmed as the story of a next film.
What does Ares looking at Quorra’s images mean?
Ares’s final moments offer a separate franchise tease: he looks at images of Quorra. In TRON: Legacy, Quorra is an isomorphic algorithm who begins in the Grid and makes it into the real world. The images suggest a possible connection between Ares and Quorra, but they do not confirm that the characters meet.

These two ending hooks point in different directions. Julian’s disc and Sark-like suit look back to Ed Dillinger and the original TRON; Ares’s interest in Quorra points toward a possible connection to TRON: Legacy.
What Ares’s journey says about the film’s AI theme
Disney’s official synopsis describes Ares as a highly sophisticated Program sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humanity’s first encounter with A.I. beings. Within the film’s story, contact with people changes Ares: director Joachim Rønning describes him as wanting to become real and learning what it means to be human.

In a D23 interview, Rønning said: “The film is about Ares, who ventures out into the ‘real world’ and in many ways wants to become real—and has to learn what it means and what it takes to be human.” That is the film’s humanist science-fiction premise, not a claim about how real-world AI systems work.
