She made the comment in April 2024, after the pair had already appeared in the first season as the parents of their son, Jay. Her remark addresses Season 2 only. It does not rule out a later season or a different project.
What Kunis said, and when
Kunis was asked at PaleyFest in April 2024 whether viewers could expect her and Kutcher in Season 2, which was still ahead of its release. TVLine reported her answer this way: “No,” Kunis said when asked if viewers could expect them in Season 2. “I mean, we did our thing and they introduced our son in the show.”

Entertainment Tonight reported the same remark from the same event, but its wording differs slightly, adding “and that was, you know, [enough].” Quote whichever version you use exactly as published by that outlet, and avoid merging the two.
Their Season 1 roles and the Jay storyline
Kunis and Kutcher returned as Jackie Burkhart and Michael Kelso, the characters they played on That ’70s Show. Netflix’s official Tudum retrospective says they appeared as Jay’s parents in the series premiere. TVLine describes the appearance as one episode of Season 1 and identifies the son as Jay Kelso, played by Mace Coronel.

That storyline is the reason Kunis gave for not returning. Her explanation was narrow: the couple had made their contribution by introducing the character of their son, and the show had used that appearance for its purpose.
Their status in each season

|---|---|---|---|
| Mila Kunis | Jackie Burkhart | Appeared as Jay’s mother in one episode, the series premiere (Netflix Tudum; TVLine) | Said in April 2024 she would not appear (PaleyFest remarks reported by TVLine and Entertainment Tonight); not named in Netflix’s Season 2 overview |
| Ashton Kutcher | Michael Kelso | Appeared as Jay’s father in one episode, the series premiere (Netflix Tudum; TVLine) | Not addressed separately by name; the April 2024 remarks covered the pair together; not named in Netflix’s Season 2 overview |
Who is in Season 2
Netflix’s official season overview presents Season 2 as Parts 2 and 3 and says the story continues with Leia and her teen friends. The overview names these returning legacy actors and guest performers:
- Laura Prepon
- Seth Green
- Lisa Loeb
- Carmen Electra
- Wayne Knight
- Kevin Smith
- Tommy Chong
- Jason Mewes
- Matt Rife
- Kadeem Hardison
Because the overview is a partial list, the absence of Kunis and Kutcher from it is consistent with Kunis’s statement but is not a full credit listing. Check Netflix’s title page for the complete cast if you need every appearance.
Quick Recap
What the answer does not settle
- It is not a departure or a firing. Nothing in the cited remarks says the actors left the series, were dropped, or are barred from returning.
- It covers Season 2 only. Kunis’s comment does not address later seasons, revivals, or other projects.
- It does not cover the rest of the legacy cast. Netflix’s list shows other original-series performers in Season 2, so the question is specific to these two actors.
- It gives no further motive. Her stated reason is the first-season storyline, and nothing more should be read into it.
