Was Task Season 2 confirmed?
Yes. HBO announced the renewal on November 20, 2025, turning Ingelsby’s earlier expression of interest into a confirmed continuation. HBO described Season 1 as “among HBO’s top three fastest growing debut seasons”; that is the network’s own ranking, not an independently reported audience count. HBO’s renewal announcement
What did Brad Ingelsby say about returning?
In an October 19, 2025 interview with TheWrap, before the renewal, Ingelsby said conversations had taken place but that the decision was partly dependent on how audiences responded. “I’d love to come back and do it,” he said, adding that he liked the idea of bringing a group of people together around a new case each season. It was an appealing format, not yet a firm Season 2 plan.

The comments suggested an anthology-like approach: a continuing crime-drama framework with a group of characters and a case that could change from season to season. HBO’s later renewal confirmed the show would continue, but Ingelsby’s October remarks alone did not establish Season 2’s story or returning cast.
What is Season 2’s emotional focus?
By May 27, 2026, Ingelsby described a more personal starting point: Tom’s relationship with his son Ethan, and what happens when Ethan comes home after committing a crime and feeling shame. “I felt like we had built in this idea, ‘Well, what happens when Ethan comes home? What does that look like?’” he told The Playlist.

Ingelsby was in the production office during pre-production when he spoke with The Playlist, but said he did not yet know all the plot events. His remarks establish an emotional premise, not a full synopsis. He also said, “If it’s ever too easy, I think something’s wrong.”
Who has been reported for the returning season?

The updates have become progressively firmer, but they answer different questions:
