Sting is a 2024 horror film written and directed by Kiah Roache-Turner. It follows Charlotte, a 12-year-old who secretly keeps a strange spider and names it Sting, until the creature grows fast enough to hunt the residents of her apartment building. It is not the same work as the musician Sting or the 1973 caper The Sting, so confirm the director and cast before you search, rent or buy.
What Sting is about
According to See Pictures, an isolated, rebellious 12-year-old named Charlotte discovers a strange spider and names it Sting. The creature grows rapidly and begins hunting people in her apartment block. The film’s arc runs from pet to predator: the early scenes are domestic and secretive, and the threat then spreads through the building.
The official US distributor, Well Go USA Entertainment, describes the film this way:
“After raising an unnervingly talented spider in secret, 12-year-old Charlotte must face the facts about her pet—and fight for her family’s survival—when the once-charming creature rapidly transforms into a giant, flesh-eating monster.”

Is Sting scary if you hate spiders?
The film is built around one spider, and that is the main reason it will be hard going for arachnophobes. The early part of the story treats the creature as a secret pet, so the spider is onscreen from the start rather than appearing only as a late-film threat. Online, some viewers have asked whether the spider’s appearance will be hard to watch for someone who dislikes spiders. That is one anecdotal discussion, not a survey of audiences.
The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) content advice for the film lists:

- Strong violence
- Bloody images
- Threat
- Language
The BBFC description notes attacks in an apartment block, including an off-screen attack accompanied by blood. The advice covers violence and gore. It is not a scene-by-scene guide to spider imagery, so it cannot tell you how close or how often the creature is shown.
Use these checks to decide:
- Skip it if you cannot tolerate a spider on screen at close range, or if you find blood and people being attacked hard to watch.
- Watch with a plan if you are wary but curious: start with the opening act, where the spider is still small, and stop if it becomes too much.
- Good fit if you want a creature feature with gore and a tight building-bound setting, and you can handle both spiders and blood.

Where to watch or buy Sting
Streaming and retail availability change over time, and the dates below are historical announcements. Check each one before you click.
- US theatrical: April 12, 2024, per Well Go USA Entertainment.
- US streaming: Rotten Tomatoes lists a May 14, 2024 streaming release and has shown Fandango as a rent or buy option. Treat this as a 2024 listing, not a guarantee of what is available today.
- STUDIOCANAL territories: STUDIOCANAL announced a home premiere for July 15, 2024, and Blu-ray and DVD availability from August 19, 2024. These dates apply to its territories only.
If you want a physical copy, follow these steps:
- Confirm the title is the 2024 film directed by Kiah Roache-Turner and starring Alyla Browne as Charlotte, so you do not buy a different work called Sting.
- Choose Blu-ray or DVD. The picture and sound quality differ, and so does the disc format your player supports.
- Check the region code on the packaging. Blu-ray discs carry region codes A, B or C, and DVDs carry region numbers. A disc coded for another region may not play on your player.
- Check that the seller’s listing matches the STUDIOCANAL release for your territory and that the item is in stock before you pay.
For streaming, search the service available in your country, then confirm that the listing is the 2024 film with the same director and cast. Rights move between services and territories, so a title that was available in one country may be unavailable in another.

Critical reception
Rotten Tomatoes recorded a 70% Tomatometer score from 115 reviews and a 62% Popcornmeter score from more than 50 verified ratings. These scores move as reviews accumulate, so read them as a dated reading rather than a settled verdict.
The critical and audience scores are useful as a rough guide to how the film has been received, but they say little about whether a particular viewer will find the spider imagery tolerable. For that, the content guidance above is the more useful reference.
