Spoilers for all of The Acolyte, especially episode 8. Osha kills Sol after Mae confronts him about Brendok, then leaves with Qimir as he erases Mae’s memory. Vernestra blames Sol for the Jedi deaths and goes to speak with Yoda. The shadowy figure near Qimir’s cave is Darth Plagueis, confirmed by showrunner Leslye Headland after the finale. The story ends on unresolved threads, but the series will not return: Lucasfilm ruled out a second season in August 2024.

What happens in The Acolyte finale?

Episode 8 brings the surviving characters back to Brendok, where the events of the Jedi mission sixteen years earlier come to a head. Mae confronts Sol about her mother’s death while Osha listens. Sol tries to explain and apologize, but Osha kills him by Force-choking him.

As Jedi arrive, Qimir and Osha prepare to escape. Qimir wipes Mae’s memory so she cannot reveal their location. Osha accepts him as her teacher and leaves with him; Mae is left in Jedi custody, separated from her sister and unable to remember what happened. The ending reverses the twins’ positions: Osha turns toward the dark side, while Mae remains with the Jedi.

Who dies, and what does Vernestra tell the Jedi?

Osha kills Sol. StarWars.com’s official finale coverage describes him as dead along with the rest of the Brendok four. At a Senate tribunal, Vernestra attributes the murders of Indara, Torbin and Kelnacca to Sol, giving the Jedi Order a public explanation for the deaths.

The episode also shows Vernestra going to speak with Yoda. It does not establish exactly what she tells him privately, or whether she discloses the truth about Brendok and Qimir.

Who are the cameos at the end?

Yoda

Yoda appears in the final scene as Vernestra enters to speak with him. The meeting links the story to the familiar Jedi Order of the prequel era, but what Yoda learns from Vernestra is left unanswered.

Darth Plagueis

The shadowy figure watching near Qimir’s cave is Darth Plagueis. The episode does not name him, but Headland confirmed the identity in an interview with Den of Geek. She said, “I wanted to introduce him as the complication for season two.” That describes the story direction Headland had in mind at the time; it is not a second-season plot or evidence that one was made.

Is The Acolyte getting a season 2?

No. ABC News reported on August 20, 2024, that Lucasfilm had decided not to bring the series back for a second season. Headland’s comment about Plagueis was made before that decision and referred to a possible continuation. It should not be read as an announcement that season 2 was approved or remains pending.

Where does the series fit in Star Wars?

Lucasfilm places The Acolyte about 100 years before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, in the final years of the High Republic. The series debuted on Disney+ on June 4, 2024, with Leslye Headland as creator and showrunner. Its finale ties a personal tragedy on Brendok to the Jedi Order’s public account of events, while leaving the twins’ future and Yoda’s knowledge unresolved.
