What the listings say about the film
Released in 1985, The Breakfast Club was directed, written, and produced by John Hughes. Universal describes it as a comedy, teen film, and drama: five students from different social groups are brought together by Saturday detention. AFI’s synopsis identifies them as a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess, and a criminal, whose day in detention prompts them to confront questions about themselves and their futures.

AFI lists a 97-minute runtime and an R rating. United Palace gives the same runtime as 1 hour 37 minutes and also lists an R rating. The cast includes Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, John Kapelos, and Paul Gleason.
Were the screenings part of a nationwide anniversary release?
The available event listings document two local screenings; they are not enough to establish a nationwide release or a single organizer for anniversary events overall. Fathom Entertainment’s April 3, 2025 announcement of its 2025 Big Screen Classics lineup names anniversary screenings of other films but does not list The Breakfast Club. That announcement describes its own lineup; it does not rule out a separate screening by another organizer.

For viewers who missed the 2025 events, Universal’s official film page lists digital and collection formats along with a Blu-ray 30th Anniversary Edition and a DVD 30th Anniversary Edition. These are 30th-anniversary home-video editions, not 40th-anniversary releases.
