When Season 6 came out

What Season 6 is about
Season 6 picks up a few months after the Christmas-themed episodes of Season 5 and moves into spring. Netflix’s showrunner guide frames the season around three threads: the wedding of Mel and Jack, their path to parenthood, and their plan to turn Lilly’s farm into their home.

Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith describes the couple’s direction this way: “Mel and Jack will advance on their path to parenthood while also turning Lilly’s (Lynda Boyd) farm into their ultimate dream home.” The wedding is the season’s central organizing event, and new secrets and family history come to the surface alongside it.
Storylines to watch
- Brady’s new role: Smith says Brady volunteers at the Virgin River fire station under Fire Chief Kaia. He adds that Kaia “is pulled into Preacher’s past sins.”
- Everett’s secret: the season introduces Mel’s biological father, Everett, as a mystery character who has carried a long-held secret.
- The 1970s flashbacks: some episodes are set around 1972 and follow young Sarah and Everett as they meet and fall in love.
The tone of the season
Writer and producer Richard Keith has described the show’s approach to its characters: “Yes, the characters do go through some pretty terrible things, but there’s always a happy ending. It may not be the happy ending they were expecting, but they find their way to a happy place that, in some ways, might be happier than if they’d ended up where they thought they would to begin with.”

Cast
Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson return as Mel Monroe and Jack Sheridan. Netflix’s Tudum season guide also names the following returning cast members:
- Tim Matheson
- Annette O’Toole
- Colin Lawrence
- Benjamin Hollingsworth
- Zibby Allen
- Sarah Dugdale
- Marco Grazzini
- Mark Ghanimé
- Kai Bradbury
- Kandyse McClure
The flashback story uses different actors for the younger versions of the characters: Jessica Rothe plays young Sarah and Callum Kerr plays young Everett. In the present-day story, John Allen Nelson plays Everett.

Where the show is filmed
Netflix says Virgin River is filmed in Vancouver, Canada. Virgin River itself is a fictional town set in Northern California, so the show’s remote mountain setting is a production creation rather than a real location.
Read the books first, or after
The series is based on Robyn Carr’s Virgin River novels. Harlequin, the publisher, describes the books as the source for the Netflix series and lists them in print, ebook, and audiobook formats through retailers. Readers can start with the first novel to get the background on Mel and the town. The books are an optional companion: they do not map directly onto the Season 6 storyline, so you do not need to read them to follow the show.
